Good: Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful staff! Jim, their in-house luthier/set up guy was great!. Bad: Parking. Berkeley neighborhood parking can be exacerbating! Finally...

Quality Music store and a great resource 3/30/2010

Excellent service - brought in a Wildwood banjo and the luthier made it play better with a few tweaks. When I needed a strap and a gig bag they had several excellent options. Always friendly and helpful. Quality and a great resource. more

Great service! 1/29/2010

Good: Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful staff! Jim, their in-house luthier/set up guy was great!. Bad: Parking. Berkeley neighborhood parking can be exacerbating! Finally pulled into the Marmot Mountain Shop lot after a few laps around the block and asked them if it was OK. The salesperson spotted my mandolin case and said it was fine - apparently it's a shared lot.. Improvements: Parking sign saying it's OK to use the Marmot lot!. Other: I would highly recommend 5th String and will be taking all of my stringed instruments there for any future set up/repair work. They also have a great selection of instruments!. more

Great store! 10/18/2006

My wife used to take banjo lessons here from one of the owners, Phyl, and she and her husband had great customer service. They have lots of instruments and supplies, and the lessons were very cheap at that time - I'm sure they've gone up since then. A very nice family business that could use the support! more
