We were lured to his New York City office by his beautifully produced promotional DVD. Before his office would set up an appointment, $500 had to be paid. Once there, we met with a him, a lawyer, and his office personnel. Then we were informed that we had to pay the lawyer $500,we needed blood work for $500, and then an initial enrollment fee of $9500 had to be paid. None of this was explained to us prior to our arrival and payment was expected immediately. Once all of this was paid, we returned home and began our search for a surrogate. This office moved at a snail's pace once they received our initial investment. We found the surrogate/egg donor coordinator quite rude and patronizing. Furthermore, Dr. Steinberg claimed to have surrogates ""in house"" but there were none available; she claimed that if we waited 6 months or so, they may have one available. We were referred to an outside agency to identify a surrogate for an additional $9000. Once we began working with this agency, we chose one potential surrogate after the other, all of whom were rejected by Dr. Steinberg for sometimes legitimate reasons, but sometimes ridiculous reasons. He was quite inflexible and will only work with surrogates locally. Furthermore, he was never available to speak with us. We finally had enough as we felt our last surrogate he rejected was a true match for us. Therefore, we left Dr. Steinberg's practice and forfeited all the money mentioned above. We requested our records and they made us pay around $25. We did and they have still not sent our records.
