Fat Sandwiches, Beers in Abundance 9/6/2006

FatHeads is probably a must-see on anyone's Pittsburgh visit. While the wait can take a while, my group didn't mind because it gave us a chance to sample some of the 100 or so reasonably-priced beers on tap and sidle in at the crowded bar. My friends mentioned that this is one of those bars that gets crowded earlier in the evening (dinnertime) and not so much late-night. Table management is brisk so we were seated after about 30-45 minutes (who keeps track after a few brews?). We ordered the fried mushrooms, coated in a slightly herbed batter, served with a mild horseradish sauce on the side. We also tried the hot parmesan wings, and some perogies. The perogies were my favorite, with a side of sour cream. Fried crispy on the outside and soft and mooshy on the inside. Total comfort. The boys loved the wings and we all devoured the mushrooms. We were full by the time the sandwiches arrived but that wouldn't stop us from digging in. But I could only finish half of my sandwich! It was a ham and swiss topped with chicken spinach artichoke dip, tomato, and then fried on the grill. Even the ham inside was fried on the grill! The sandwiches came with a side of chips, and the burgers with fries (as if you'd have room for them). Children had portions bigger than their heads. This place truly lives up to the name! With a sandwich called the artery clogger (although all of them should be called that) you know what you're getting into. Even the salads have cheese, bacon, and potatoes in them. While we meant this place to be a starting point for our night, after our indulgences, we needed to rest and digest. A place not to miss! Website: https://www.fatheads.com/ more

Artery Clogger 3/25/2006

I really like this restaurant. The place is very clean and the owners like to keep it that way. The selection of beer is great. They carry at least 20 beers on tap. Though they do favor imports. They also carry array of bottled bear. The food is great here . They have numerous wing flavors. They cut potato chips and fry them. Then you can get different dips for them. The chips are offered with different sandwiches. They also have fries that are just as good. There does seem to be a wait for a table though. The service is good. All the sandwiches have been named also. They have The Big Easy, Artery Clogger, and The Kelsey Burger and a host of others. more

Casual restaurant with great wings 3/24/2006

If you like wings, try FatHeads. This casual bar/restaurant is in the heart of the South Side. You will find all types of people here from college students to businessmen. Burgers are pretty big, come in lots of choices and are fairly tasty. Wide selection of beer, maybe close to 50 different kinds. About average service, but that may be because the place is always extremely busy, unless you stop in for an early lunch. There are a lot of bars to choose from on the South Side, make sure this is one you try. more

Great place for a burger and beer 9/7/2005

This place has great food, large beer selection, and even great decor. The service was average and the atmosphere was relaxed. This is a casual place that you can sit down and munch on some wings. They have excellent wings, I love spicy foods and these wings are great. more

If you love sandwiches, you have to go here!! 8/9/2005

Fat Heads is located in the heart of the Southside. Although the location seems like the bar/restaurant is run by the university students, the crowd is diverse. Mix of high school students to business men and women looking to talk at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere. The sandwiches are gigantic and reasonably priced...ideal for sharing. And so are the burgers. The last three burgers on the menu are named after the owners three daughters. The homemade chips are delicious! They also have a good selection of beers. They also feature atomic wings that will make you're mouth burn for days. But if you plan on eating at this place, be prepared for a wait especially at dinner time. But if you dont want to wait, you can always order take out. more
