This is another case where HSA, home warranty company appears to be in collusion with shady service companies. Like others here, my plumbing claim was denied because the tech who came out called HSA and told them that my water heater was not properly installed. They wanted to cover $125 of a $700+ plumbing repair.
Here's the kicker, it was early afternoon on Friday before a 3 day weekend. I had agreed to pay the fee even though, as expected, the tech vetoed my claim with HSA. There was plenty of time to fix the leak but the tech just left and said they would be open again on the following Tuesday so my leak continued through the weekend.
The problem required attention on Monday so I got an account on Angies List and found a reputable company. After having the reputable company look at the issue, it was obvious that the claim should have been authorized and that Fasco had not identified root cause when they were here. The actual root cause of the leak was a failed pressure reducer which caused an expansion tank to fail and fill with water. The added weight in the expansion tank and the high pressure lead to plumbing leaks.
The bottom line is this, if you have a warranty with HSA, tear it up and forget it. They lock you into dealing with sketchy companies like Fasco and you end up paying more than you should for sub standard work and service.
