Organic farmers 12/14/2009

This farmers market 'walks the walk' as opposed to its more high-ticket local counterparts by bringing together real farmers, on premise, with local foods, chefs and restaurants for an old fashion shopping experiance. Recycling displayed and reusable bags is encouraged and is good business too. Organic farmers, sustainable local foods and locally made specialty baked goods, applesauce, jams and cheeses round out the great selection. more

So fine, it's not packed with upscale, artisan goods, but it's also one third the price! And though people complain about the lack of organic goods ... you just have to look hard. I found organic dates (a bit pricey) and a huge head of organic lettuce (only $1!). It can get crowded, but I spent $20 and left overloaded with bags of produce, breads, cakes and even flowers. I'll take tourists to the Ferry Building market, but I'll shop here for myself. Pros: Fabulous variety, Friendly vendors, Cheap as hell! Cons: Not as much organic more

Ok, but . . . 11/6/2002

Its no Ferry Plaze Farmer's Market which is mostly organic. This place is really iffy and mixed. You have to ask alot of questions and IF far too often they give you a snippy reply. All of which is fine if you shop at Safeway . . .which I do not. Pros: cheap, its there Cons: not organic enough, skanky, parking is scary more

Farm Fresh 8/12/2002

You can find fresh honey to fresh bittermelon. Farmers from all over California sell there hand picked produce here. Five will take you a long way here. What more can you ask for, fresh air and fresh fruits and vegetables. Don't forget the fresh fish from all over the world. Pros: fresh, fresh, fresh Cons: only saturday, once every week more

forget the Ferry market.. Alemany is top 6/30/2002

Plenty of parking and the best selection of produce. Why pay more at the Ferry Market when you can get 80% of the same thing at Alemany. Most of the citysearch readers are Yuppies .. like me. but in this economy looking for better deals should be priority. Support your small family owned farmers. This is the best place especially if you have a car. This place is not so great if you have to use public transportation Pros: parking, best value Cons: public transportation, way out there more
