Supplies for Real Artists 12/22/2005

Flax Art & Design has supplies that you just can't find other places. They are worth the drive to if you are a serious artist. And the staff is quirky, but they know the fine details about their stock. I was looking for a specific type of paper for an unusual art project, and I tried all the local art stores and craft places. Flax had just what I needed -- and I enjoyed walking around and seeing new types of supplies that I had not found at my usual supply store. more

Flax Art & Design 10/28/2005

I have been unable to find a art supply store that matches the quality, selection and funkyness of Flax. They are conveniently located next to a really good buffet restaurant and though parking can be a pain it's worth the trip. I love there paper selection but I wish there was something to tell you whether or not it's printable. They always have some new interesting product to drool over. I even like how they break the sections. more

Great Art and Craft Store 9/6/2005

Great store to get lost in. This is a brilliant store to find anything art and craft related. It has anything you can imagine you might ever need and is very well laid out. The staff are extremely helpfull. Can be a little pricey more

Supplies for any kind of artist 8/21/2005

Flax is a huge store. It has sections for every concievable art project you could possibly think of. I was working on a marble sculpture and they have rasps and chisels for just that. They have a huge paper department, lots of paints, pencils, pens, and in every brand and variety you could ever want. It isn't the cheapest art store I've ever been to, but it does have a great selection. more

Good supplies 8/20/2005

If you are a poor art student, you will not be able to afford shopping at Flax... but if you have a little cash to spend, this is a GREAT place in terms of selection. Extensive papers, blank journals, invitations, utilitarian tools, etc... Despite it being expensive, it is hard to find a better selection. They have supplies for almost every medium. They're famous for their paper supply, with reason. Definitely worth stopping by! more

Great art supply store has it all 8/18/2005

Flax is a huge art supply store that has an extensive selection of pretty much everything (certainly everything I've ever needed). They carry all the basics, of course, but also have an huge selection of specialty paper and unique stationary. I'm always amazed by the sheer number of different journals and notebooks they offer. I don't consider myself much of an artist, but going into this store always inspires me to try to be more creative. more

Flax 8/16/2005

Flax. Wow! This place is fun! Whether you’re a crafter, a fine artist, or a bored dude in the city, this store has plenty of supplies and inspiration to offer. I hung out in the paper section, which offered so many choices that I felt a little overwhelmed. Bring a snack. I interacted with two of the staff. One was very enthusiastic and helpful. The other responded to me as though I were intruding on his hey-I’m-sitting-here time. more

Another one of the great art & supply store in SF. The staff is very helpful and is willing to help you in what ever you need, from finding the thing you want to doing the actual art. Parking is not too good. They have a lot of selections and items to choose from. more

Large selection, but prices can be a little high too 7/18/2005

Flax is a great store for artsy people. They have a HUGE selection of supplies for all sorts of projects, and the staff knows a lot about the products and are willing to help you. However, the prices can be a bit higher than you'll find at other stores, but its worth it for the selection they offer. more
