Not the best in Mexicantown, but certainly the cheapest 11/23/2006

Evie's is like the Lafayette Coney Island of Mexicantown. The food is inexpensive and fast and tastes pretty good, but not great. If you're looking for a finer dining experience, head across the street to the Mexican Village Restaurant or Xochimilicos. However, If you're looking for an under $5/plate deal then Evie's is for you. The tamales are pretty good, although I'm not a huge tamale fan, so I don't have a large base of comparison. Parking is free behind Mexican Village. more

Eat at Evie's Tamales only if you like your food delicious and cheap. The tamales here are perfect; you'll wish your stomach was bigger so you could eat more of them. There's a very good reason why these masa stuffed with tasty are sold by the dozen. more

Evie's Tamales- Great Mexican food 3/26/2006

This is a small place hidden in Mexicantown in Southwest Detroit. The food is very good and so are the prices. The sell a tamales by the dozen for around 7.00. They are hot and we usually eat them on the way home. The carry-out is quick and always fresh. Service is quick and it's a great place to get a fast lunch with really excellent food. It is tucked in a neighborhood along with a bakery, little gift shop and other eateries. This is a favorite or mine and seems to be known more to locals. Look for it next time you really want good, hot-fresh food. more
