We have a 2002 Honda 50 HP 4-stroke mounted on a sailboat. We have had no mechanical issues with it, especially no issues with the cooling system even though we've used it a lot over a 7 year period. I took our boat to Bayside Marine a month ago because water was not coming out of the pee hole in the side of our outboard.
We also wanted them to check out a strange whirling noise coming from the outboard. They charged me $87 and said everything checked out fine.
The very next time we took the engine out, the overheating alarm buzzer sounded on the engine. We immediately shut it down. It took awhile to figure out what happenned because we've never had an alarm go off before.
We put it back on the trailer and took it back to Bayside Marine. They replaced the water pump and thermostat and charged me $570.92 - no apologies, no discounts, no nothing. Just give them the money.
