Great place for a sandwich, salad or wrap in Riverside 9/25/2011

I've eaten at all of the European Street locations and have always found the quality of the food to be consistent, with decent service. They offer a varied selection of salads, wraps and sandwiches and have a very good offering of vegan and vegetarian choices, as well as gluten-free items. The atmosphere is casual, the staff friendly and the variety of unusual beers and candies makes it worth stopping just to shop. All of the reviewers who have a problem with the pierced and tattooed should really just stick to the usual boring places they frequent. more

Horrible treatment of my special needs on 9/14/2011

my family was asked to leave the resturaunt on a weekday at 3 30 in the afternoon because our terminally ill son was ""being too loud"" We were there less than 5 min we ordered our drinks while waiting my 5 yr old son (who functions mentally at an 18 mth level) made 2 high pitch sounds when our drinks came I took him to the bathroom where he made two more high pitched noises My son is non verbal and this is his only means of communicating my 12 yr old son told me later we could not be heard from the bathroom when we got out of the bathroom we were approched by a manager and asked to leave because he was being too lound when I explained that my son has special needs he said in a very snotty tone ""I can see that but u ar disturbing other people"" There were only 3 other tables in the entire resturaunt at the time with people. We left and contacted the owner when the owner called back he told my husband that he would not be apoologizing and that I was obviously a mother who could not control her child. I am disgusted with this place that they would treat an ill child so coldly and we will never be back more

Not up to snuff!! 9/6/2007

I find eating with plastic on plastic for 8.00 a rip off. The service was slow, not informational and bland. The food did not live up to expectations. Everyone kept telling me this was the place to go. I don't understand why!\r We will never go again....sorry Pros: nearby Cons: all of it, except the beer more

GREAT SANDWICHES, GREAT BEER! 3/23/2007

European Street on Park is the best E Street to eat at in my opinion. The building has a great deal of ambience and the art deco building design really sets it off as a landmark in its Riverside neighborhood. European Street on Park has a large outdoor dining area as well as air conditioned seating inside. Inside, you will find a great old world type bar and dining room. They also have a shop inside with a considerable carry out beer/wine selection and gourmet food items for purchase. The place exudes a bavarian style. The staff is always irreverent, charming, and accomodating. E Street has 3 'claims to fame' and they are: Excellent Sandwiches of all kinds, Desserts with unique style and flair, and a beer selection second to NONE! My favorite sandwich is the 'white russian', favorite soup would have to be the 'beer cheese' served in a bread bowl, and my favorite dessert is definitely the Peanut Butter cookie. Its HUGE! I also recommend the Chicken Salad platter, oh and one more thing, their german potato salad is really good! The owners run a clean establishment that will no doubt impress you! Pros: BEER Selection, Price, Staff Cons: none. more

European Street is a Great Treat in Riverside 3/13/2006

Located in a colourful historic building (art deco service station!) in the heart of Riverside, European Street has everything you can ask for in a funky cafe. Super selection of sandwiches and beer and the Beer Cheese Soup is unbelievably fab. I have taken my kids here since they were little - no kids menu, but they do allow sharing and splitting. Service is good, but when it's crowded and busy, it can be a bit slow - understandably. As for the other patrons - I've seen very diverse people eat side by side without a problem. This place embodies everything Riverside stands for! Pros: Delicious Food, Great Ambience, Great Location Cons: Crowded at times, Parking awkward more

One of my favorites, even considering... 2/12/2006

I have been eating here for a couple of years now. If you're looking for a great sandwich and soup or Babaganoosh dip, or a great dessert while chatting amiably with friends, it's hard to beat! I take exception to the service complaints, since I think the staff tries pretty hard to give a good experience. They ARE sometimes understaffed, especially if you go during a lunch rush, but the european dining habit is one of eating slowly while enjoying a leisurely, relaxed visit with friends and family, not in cramming food down at lightning pace anyway. If you want a place where the waiter isn't shoving you out the door to fill the table with the next ""tip"", it reminds me most of the cafes in France where good food, good drink, and good company are easily enjoyed the way they are meant to be. Pros: Eclectic Crowd, Good Food, Beer, Wine, Good Value Cons: Eclectic Crowd, Understaffed more

Worst service you can find anywhere 7/25/2005

I am a resident of Riverside and I love all our ""different"" people. That's the spice of Riverside. There are lots of better places to eat among the peirced and tattooed, though. I have been to this location 3 times and I will never go back. In by book, three strikes and you're out. I have had to basically stand on the table and wave a chair around to get my check here once. The service is so bad here I've left on two occasions feeling that it must be personal. On top of that the interior seems like it had it's last redecoration in the 80s by a mirror fanatic and the colors they chose to paint the building make it look like a circus. The more I write the more I remember how much I hate this place. I'm going to stop now before I say somthing unfair. Pros: Riverside Denizens Cons: No Service, Rude Service, Awful Service more

Great food! 3/10/2004

Speaking as one of the tattooed patrons of European Street, what else do you expect if you visit the Riverside location? That's one of the things I love about this location - the diversity of people who come to socialize. I agree that the seating leaves very little room for privacy, and the service can be sometimes lackluster, but overall it's a great place to eat. Pros: Ambience, Selection of food more

The Best of the Worst 10/4/2003

The one time that I went to this place, every wierdo in the city of Jacksonville must have been in there. There is absolutley no sense of privacy at all. You ""enjoy"" your food with a tattooed, nose-pierced stranger stairing at you from a distance of about 36"" while you eat. Although the food is good, it's not worth what they charge, or put you through to eat it. Pros: Decor, Food Cons: Crowded, Terrible seating, Expensive for what yo more

Only the best 7/26/2002

The European St Cafe is the best cafe in Jacksonville! It has everything from great food, to great atmosphere, to great prices and great service! This place is in the heart of beautiful Riverside and is a must for anyone in Jacksonville! Dont forget the order the edible bread bowl of Beer Cheese soup, its the best! Pros: great food, great prices, great atmosphere Cons: small parking lot, smoke/non close toget more

Yummy atmosphere and food 7/24/2002

The European Street Cafe in Riverside is wonderful! The food is delicious and inexpensive too. The Beer Cheese soup served in a edible bread bowl with a side of garden salad is always an excellent choice. The sandwhiches are awesome and huge! The triple decker Italian Club is a definite must have! Great food for a great price. There is also an area of the resteraunt that is a little store, with candy, monsterous cookies, and other treats. Oh yeah, did I mention that the atmosphere is very artsy, being in Riverside. Dress is a wonderful balance of dressy to casual. This is the best resteraunt in the Jacksonville area...no, the best in the state! :) Pros: great food, great price, awesome atmosphere Cons: small parking lot, smok/non close togeth more
