Great customer service at EssenseVIP 9/13/2010

I met the owner Therese about five years ago at the shop's former location in North Chicago. Due to some commuting issues, I had to find a salon in Gurnee, and started frequenting a much larger, impersonal, well-known salon. One of the few treasures in that salon was Amanda who was my stylists for a good three years before she left that salon. more

BEST HAIRCARE AROUND 9/13/2010

I have been looking for a salon like this for years. I like Essence VIP because they care about your hair. Nancy does my hair. And had I met her when I first moved to the Chicago area, my hair would have been blessed well before now. Thank you Essence VIP and thank you Nancy. Please, everyone, you have to try Essence VIP. HAIR CARE DONT RIGHT!!! 9/8/2010

I get my hair done on a weekly basis and I love the service that I receive when I am at Essence. The experience starts with a warm and pleasant greeting when you enter; followed by a fantastic shampoo. Ending with the best hair care service that I have found in years; provided by Amanda. Amanda gives me more than a hair style, she makes sure my hair is healthy. I feel lucky to get both.... finally. I receive compliments on my hair all the time and I know it is because of the consistent and EXCELLENT service that I receive from Amanda. SHE IS THE BEST!! more

Excellent Service 9/5/2010

I recently had my hair micro braided by Romie at Essence. She was very professional and considerate of her customer. During the braiding session, I was pleasantly surprised how I had no pain vs when I have had my hair braided at the African shops where I have been in extreme pain.The braides were still tight but I did not have headaches or pain. I had the hair style for one week now and I am still getting compliments. more

Essence VIP makes you feel like a VIP 12/22/2009

Amanda is my stylist at Essence. Amanda is amazing. When I go to the salon I don't have to tell her what to do to my hair. I go into the salon and allow her to create. She never disappoints me. Amanda also does my 12 year old daughters hair. My daughter does not have chemicals in her hair and Amanda works well with JoJo's natural hair. My 14 year old son has a box cut and it is three colors. Amanda colored his hair and he is always getting compliments. I love my weekly experience at essence; definately a 5 star salon. I moved out hear about 8 months ago, and I have been to a couple of diffent salon before a came to EssenceVIP, and I wish I new about Terez 8 months ago. I like the way she talks to you about whats right for your hair. She just don't do my hair and take my money and sent me on my way, she lets me know how I can have and keep healty hair. Outstanding styling and healthy hair & scalp care 12/7/2009

I've been a client of the proprieter, Teresa (Terez) Zigler for more than 20 years. She has always been the very best in the far north suburbs...and I've tried many others. First of all, you can recognize a "Terez" hair style. She is the very best at short cuts and all types of color. I've worn my hair very short to shoulder length and she "works with me" no matter what my preference at any point in time. I need cut, color and special handling of a sensitive scalp. I have very thick, course hair but every relaxer I have tried burned my scalp. Terez has one that gets me straight but does not burn. My hair is always healthy and strong. Couldn't Ask for More 12/1/2009

I've been coming to Terez for about two years, and I could not ask for more. Regardless of the role of those working in this salon, everyone is a professional, while at the same time providing a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I have not been disappointed in any of the services I've received, but on the contrary, I've often been very surprised. I've had my hair cut and color treated, and the responses from those who see me, leads me to believe that it will be some time before I go back to my natural color. And all of this at extremely reasonable pricing! This place is a keeper! Pros: Hair care, specifically, coloring, can't be beat! Cons: None more

Can keep your hair straight from sweat, rain & fog. 11/23/2009

I have been a client of Terez's for 14 years. She is very knowledgable on hair care and treatment. She Flat-irons my hair and gets it so straight, that it can withstand rain, fog, and sweat from working out at health club 3 days per week. Coolest hair salon, very pleasant and good service.Terez is delightful and pleasant to talk to and highly professional .She is incredibly skilled at her craft, girlfriend knows her stuff. I went in for a hair cut, wasnt really sure how i wanted it cut .She suggested a new cut something new . So i said go for it. I trust her completely when I sit in the chair. When she completed my look I felt fabulous and satisfied. Went to work the next day I got so much compliment and attention from my hair. Comments like where did you get your hair done and who did your hair. Like I always say Essence Vip u will not be disappointed...Big ups toTerez... If you want healthy hair, a style that fits your lifestyle and don't want to waste time, then you want Essence VIP! Terez and her staff will make you look and feel wonderful. They don't schedule 20 people for the same time slot and make you wait hours for "your turn in the chair. Everything is always clean, and everyone is friendly. Great Haircare for African Americans in the Northern Suburbs 11/6/2009

I've been a loyal customer of Terez and Essence VIP for over 3 years. My hair has never looked better with a great haircut plus it's soft and shiny. My schedule gets a little crazy sometimes and Terez goes out of her way to accomodate me with a minimum waiting time at the salon. All I can say is, Try it - You'll like it. I recently found Essence VIP online. I emailed Terez explaining the hairloss I endured due to wearing hair extensions for 14 years and the hardship of having ezcema. Terez emailed me back immediately explaining in detail the products she provides that would help me with my damaged hair and scalp sensitivity. I was fortunate enough to get an appointment the following week and was delighted. I couldn't believe the healthy state she returned my damanged hair to. My husband and kids were quite surprised. I found Terez and the staff at Essence VIP to be very caring and professional. I was impressed when she noted the products she used on my hair and kept a record of the styling she did for me. Amazing Hair Care 2/20/2009

A couple of years ago, I moved from New York City to the Chicago metropolitan area; however, I was wearing an afro and did not have need of a stylist. The online reviews for Eseence VIP and Terez were all really good and I decided to make an appointment. It was one of the best decisions that I could have made. Terez and her staff are very professional and timely. I arrived shortly before my appointment and was helped as soon as I walked in the door. Since I was transitioning from an afro back into a perm, I was unsure as to what type of hair cut I really wanted. Terez made that decision and started cutting. As she cut, you could see my hair start to take shape. She gave me a style that is low maintenance, versatile and looks very professional. Terez explained the condition of my hair and then gave me instructions on upkeep, including hair care tips for working out, and she recommended products for home use. Essence VIP is the best ethnic hair care salon in Lake County! The owner/stylist Terez, is highly skilled in various hair care and style techniques. She takes time to listen to what the client wants done to their hair. She also evaluates the condition of your hair, and gives her professional recommendations for the best treatment for your particular hair type. Since I've been going to her I have been getting many compliments on how great my hair looks. Terez believes in making each client look their very best!
