ERNIES is one of those places you pass and unless for some would be strange reason you decide to stop in, or perhaps the party you are with has been there before and is able to wrestle you into the front door, you probably wouldnt give it a second look. Well, for some reason, my folks (who just retired to the Syracuse area from Los Angeles, a story in itself meant for another web site) have taken on an adventurous attitude and for some reason ended up at Ernies. When they took me to Ernies, I must admit, I thought they had finally become official members of the rubber cane squad!! I thought perhaps their tastebuds must have suffered irrepairable damage from the cold Upstate winter, and the day was fast approaching when I would have to confiscate their driver licenses.......BOY WAS I WRONG! Although the service is acceptable and the location is a bit rustic (not an intended motif) the food is GREAT, the portions are GREAT and the value is GREAT! This place get packed and you best arrive early to escape the wait. Incidentally, the crowd probably contributes to the state of the service, kind of slow, but polite, professional and very friendly. I had the scallop plate, the largest portion of scallops I have ever been served and they were great, broiled in the good old standby butter and garlic! I also sampled other plates ordered in our party, mainly pasta's and they were all outstanding! Ernies will be one of my regular stop while in Upstate New York. Give it a go, you will be glad you did!
Pros: Food portion size, quality and value. This place is a must go there!
Cons: Slower paced service (due to crowds). Pro's far outshine the cons!
