Steve Moffitt is too cheap to hire the necessary maintenance personnel to service all this properties and forces his tenants to live in subpar conditions. For example, when we signed the lease, he promised to remove the disgusting, dog-soiled carpet that the previous tenant left behind, having one month prior to our move in date to do so. It didn t happen. We had to threaten to break the lease when we arrived before he replaced the carpet and had to delay our move-in by three days.
Again, when we signed the lease, he said he d fix the collapsing porch soffitt we encountered over the front door. Never happened. It continued to leak copiously, soaking anyone entering or exiting the house. After numerous maintenance calls, someone showed up and jammed a board under it rather than fixing it. The leaking continued.
The worst problem was when chronic tree-root-in-pipes issue left 3 inches of sewage in our basement. After 48 hours without anyone removing the sewage, we called the city codes inspector about the pipe problem, who found 3 other code violations, including a fire hazard (dryer vent emptied into the basement). The sewage, btw, was never removed. The problem led to an infestation of drain flies, who are attracted to and thrive in sewage. I m not even detailing the black mold, leaking doors, and electrical problems (too many outlets wired to one breaker) we experienced while I was his tenant; however, the root problem is that a call to Steve Moffitt with a maintenance concern, however great or small, meant little to no maintenance support for days to weeks, often while being forced to live in unsanitary conditions.
