The Scene
With suites named after former guests, such as Mary Todd Lincoln, it's no wonder this resort is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its oldest building is the 1769 Marsh Tavern. It is surrounded by the Green and Taconic mountains on 2,300 acres that include the 900-acre Equinox Preservation Trust, where guests can cross-country ski. The property does a steady year-round business and is particularly busy during holidays. Autumn draws guests who come to see the changing of the leaves.

The list of activities is seemingly endless: championship golf on the Gleneagles Golf Course, falconry, archery, fly-fishing and ice skating.
