Elmo's Diner

This was a really neat place with super yummy food. The waiter disappeared for much longer than we appreciated before he took our order, but he did appear to be super busy. They were very accomodating with our special orders and overall were excellent. I had the turkey dinner - yum yum. My husband had the italian meatloaf and my son had the grilled cheese. All were extremely reasonable priced. more

Elmo's Diner is probably the best place for brunch. They let people over 10 order from the kids menu so you can get a mix of breakfast and lunch options in smaller portions and have a giant meal for about $5! Also they have free coffee refills! And if you want to start your day off with a bang, order a glass of wine with your brunch! more

My absolute favorite cheap place to eat at in Carrboro. They have a huge menu, with tons of healthy and just plain and simple cooking. They also have breakfast any time, which is awesome. I can never decide what to eat there because there are so many choices. Fortunately, Elmo's lets you order from the Kid's menu even if you're not a kid. So you can order small portions of the big things that you want to eat. The kid's veggie burger is only slightly smaller than the big one, and a lot cheaper. It's definitely a family restaurant, but there are also lots of college kids and dates there. It's loud and noise, but in a wonderful sort of way. more

If you're up for a down home country meal, then Elmo's is the place. Located in tehe Carr Mill Mall, the diner strives to bring Southern Comfort to you via food!! If you are going for lunch or dinner, try one of Elmo's meat-and-two-vegetable meals, like the chicken and dumplings or the Italian meatloaf . Thier burgers are awesome too. If you are going for breakfast, try thier omelets!! Get their early for breakfast, as you will have to wait for a table. Luckily, they have a huge coffee urn and cups sitting out for everyone who's waiting. It is worth the wait! Great place to eat!! more

The biscuits are huge. Not particularly tasty, but huge. That makes up for a lot. The shakes are good, hamburgers are fine, other breakfast food I have tried has all been decent. You are wondering - if the food is only okay, why have I been there so often? It's the atmosphere. It is a truly Carrboro place. Everyone is very friendly and you won't be surprised to run into someone you know there. Everyone goes there. more

Elmo's is Carrboro's local fixture of a diner-- it is always crowded, especially on weekend mornings (the free coffee makes your 1+ hour wait a little more bearable). It is a very comforting place, although it's not a "traditional" diner in the sense of having a huge menu or being open late. It's very family friendly, with crayons on the table and lots of kids, and a very popular place for comfort food. more

Took my sister and brother-in-law to Elmo's for a late Saturday morning breakfast and the place was bustling. Thankfully, they've got a huge coffee urn and cups sitting out for everyone who's waiting, and because they're located at the Carr Mill Mall, you can even take your cuppa joe wandering through the shops while you wait for your table. The food was fantastic--I recommend the huevos rancheros or the biscuits and gravy, with tomato slices on the side--and I found the service to be excellent. more

Elmo's Diner is a great food value. The food is typical diner food and you can get breakfast all day. I'm not going to go overboard and say the food is outstanding; it's pretty typical. You will leave full and most likely will have consumed your RDA of fat. The wait staff and hosts are very friendly and accomodating. This is an excellent place to bring kids. I noticed last time I was there that they have outdoor seating now- that's a good idea because they can sometimes be pretty full. more

Elmo's Diner is a perfect place to dine with a family! The atmosphere is inviting to both adults and children. The menu is exceptional as it offers a range of items to suite your palette. The menu has traditional "diner" options like sandwiches, hot meals, and salads. Their shakes and malts are so yummy!! The service we've recieved there is always courteous and the food comes out quickly. The prices are very reasonable ($5-6) per person and the portions are very large. Elmo's is located in a small shopping center that houses a lot of cute shops. It's a great place to go as you can have dinner then peruse the shops. Oh, and there's an outdoor dining area perfect for eating when the weather is warm. We recommend Elmo's as its a great value -- lots of bang for your buck! more
