Puppy Mill Misery for the Elite 8/18/2009

How are there still enough morons out there keeping pet stores like this in business? Even if they are heartless and selfish enough to not care that the puppies' parents are living in misery their entire lives, don't they realize they are paying a couple of thousand for a dog that the store only paid a couple of hundred for? And they are likely to spend thousands more in medical bills? more

Watch this video about where this store gets its puppies 4/22/2009

This store sells dogs from a puppy mill in Minnesota. There is a video on you tube which shows where the animals come from - the images are horrible - Momma dogs with infected eyes, drinking water out of muddy buckets, crammed into small cages. The video about Elite Animals speaks for itself: \r \r Go to YouTube and search for Elite Animals West Hollywood Pros: could go humane Cons: sells sick dogs more

PUPPY MILL FRONT 4/9/2009

This store gets their puppies from puppy mills, I have seen the photos of the breeders they use OMG, beyond horrible. They don't care all they care about is money from people who just don't get it that when you buy a dog you support animal abuse. Don't give them a cent of your money because if you do you are no better then the owners of this store. Do the right thing and go rescue a dog, save a life, do good not evil. Cons: dogs suffering in cages their whole lives, bred until dead more

Puppy Mill Sad dogs for sale here no pretty story here! 4/8/2009

This store is such a shame, as we have seen in the past year.\r Many stores have CHOSEN to stop selling cats and dogs and DECIDED to host rescue events.\r \r They are still in business, but most importantly they do not participate in INHUMANE animal breeding.\r \r If you want to educate yourself google puppy mills/cat mills or watch the Oprah puppy mill episode.\r \r Save a breed or a mutt dog /cat at a local shelter, rescue or petfindredotcom\r \r Hope this help.\r \r Save money and save a life Pros: Get Ripped off and know before you pay Cons: Puppy mill dogs! If you want one , here they are more

Get ripped off and contribute to animal suffering! 4/6/2008

Be clear on one thing: if you buy a puppy from this store (or ANY pet store, for that matter) you are supporting an industry of cruelty. The mothers of these puppies spend their entire lives in cages - some never set foot on solid ground - being bred every single time they go into heat. They are given no protection from the cold in the winter and no shelter from the heat in the summer. When they are too old or sick to give birth to anymore puppies, they are drowned or shot. The people at the pet store will tell you that they get their dogs from reputable breeders (USDA approved!) and they will even name the breeder; this means nothing. The USDA only requires that the cages are large enough that the animal can turn around inside. Employees at pet stores will outright lie and say they don't get their dogs from puppy mills. This is 100% untrue. Reputable breeders would NEVER sell to a pet store because they want to know where their dogs are going. Let me repeat - ONLY puppy mill breeders will sell to pet stores; no one else. They will also tell you that they regularly visit the breeding facilities; this is a lie. Most of the breeding facilities are in the midwest where large-scale puppy manufacturing is a lucrative field and very unregulated. Get a dog from a shelter or a rescue. If you are looking for a specific breed, you can go to a breed rescue. I have three purebred dogs, two pugs from a pug rescue group and shih-tzu from the shelter. If you want to learn more about pet stores, go to the Humane Society's website and search puppy mills. If you absolutely have your heart set on a purebred puppy, do your research (beginning at the American Kennel Club's site) and find a reputable breeder. A reputable breeder will insist on meeting you and will welcome you to tour his or her facilities. If nothing else, know that pet stores are a total rip-off. Unless they are selling a show quality dog, breeders never sell never dogs for over $1000 (usually a lot less). more

Jinky, the Dog of a Hollywood Wife doesn't think this place is so elite at all. It stinks. 1/15/2008

Gag. I can't believe the City of West Hollywood would allow this store to sell animals. It is far more ethical to adopt a pet than to buy a dog or cat that might be from a mass breeding facility. There is nothing ""elite"" about where puppies come from because no reputable breeder would EVER sell to a pet shop. Responsible breeders actually want to meet who takes the dog home. They open their doors willingly and proudly to show you where the dogs are whelped. Find out where the dogs are from by looking at the registration papers. There is a USDA # and breeder name and address. Check it out on the USDA website to see what ""kennel"" the poor thing was shipped from. \r \r The best solution is: Save a life! Adopt! Don't buy while shelter dogs die!\r \r Jinky, the dog of a Hollywood Wife Pros: convenience Cons: they sell live animals! more

animal abuse 11/3/2007

elite animals is a filthy, unlit storefront with delapidated second hand displays advertising crappy animal products that aren't even for sale. in the back are 24x24"" glass enclosures housing 2-3 sickly looking small dogs EACH. and did i mention the smell? the perimiter of the building steams off essence of concentrated dog urine. needless to say, i wouldn't trust anyone there to go near my dog, let alone with a sharp object. Pros: ? Cons: dirty, weird hours, neglect animals more

Stolli's Summer Hairdo 4/26/2005

After our vet recommended (rather emphatically) that our show dog's coat be shaved to help him cope w/ the summer heat, I reluctantly brought my miniature American Eskimo to Alex at Elite Animals for a bath and a lioncut. Stolli makes his living as a model and his coat had never been shaved before. I was nervous. Well, I need not have worried. The cut was done beautifully ... Not one single little nick anywhere, Stolli (the dog) clearly enjoyed the entire experience, and when Alex brought him out, Stolli looked like a million bucks and was wearing a cute little bandana. As a bonus, Stolli's coat grew back more glorious than ever. I will continue to trust Alex w/ Stolli's grooming needs ; ) Pros: no nicks, good w/ dogs, reasonable fee more
