Elan Hair Salon

I typically pooh-pooh hair salons. As the disappointed recipient of many bad (even tear-worthy) expensive haircuts, I normally opt for SuperCuts. But after years of searching, I have finally found a top-notch stylist. Colleen and I discussed my hair at length before she ever picked up her scissors. Different style choices were bandied about but in the end she made it clear she was going to do it MY way. She gave me a great blunt cut with nice framing and some much needed thinning. It looked great once it had been blown out with high-end products, but I knew the real test would be ME styling it. I warned Colleen that five minutes with a hair dryer and paddle brush is usually the best I can do. Colleen understood that. Having identified me as a low-maintenance self-stylist, Colleen gave me a cut that works with my lifestyle and I love it. We also discussed color treatments. My hair used to be blondish, but has gotten very dark and ashy in recent years. Colleen recommend an enzyme lightening treatment which works to pull out latent highlights in your hair. She processed a sample of my hair and, liking the preliminary results, I returned a few weeks later for a treatment. I LOVE IT! I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror. The color is very natural and bright and it wasn't nearly as expensive as a dye-job. So in a nutshell, Colleen knows her stuff. I will return. more

Completely satisfied with this Groupon-instigated experience. The salon has a charming, traditional vibe, warm colors, feminine decor. No loud rock music or harsh modern edges. I suspect the salon usually caters to more mature generations than my own (I'm a student in my 20's) however I was very happy with my stylist, Marissa, who appeared to be about my age. Marissa gave me her full attention and didn't rush through the shampoo, deep condition, cut and blowdry package. I had time to relax and enjoy each procedure. I have long, fine hair, which often translates to gritting my teeth through a salon blow-dry, but Marissa was perfectly gentle and patient with my locks. I had a very particular look in mind for the style, and she carried it out just right. more

I was offered refreshments while I waited my turn, and all the stylists were very friendly. But of course the most important part is the hair cut, and I was very pleased with mine. Midge gave me the cut I didn't even know I wanted! I was so excited when I saw it, I couldn't wait to go show it off. When I got there, I just wanted something different but I didn't have anything specific in mind, and I couldn't find a picture of exactly what I wanted, so I didn't give Midge much to go on...but I didn't have to! She could tell what kind of shape would flatter my face and knew how to give me a look that is both edgy and versatile. And she really took her time with me too. I never felt like I had to be out of the chair by some deadline, as I have felt in many salons. I left very happy, looking younger and fresher . I would trust Elan with my hair any time, and I highly recommend them to anyone. more

I spoke with Rob on the phone, one of the owners, to schedule an appointment and he was extremely friendly and took the time to answer my questions. When I arrived for my appointment, Rob and his owner wife, Colleen, greeted me and offered me coffee. We struck up a conversation immediately and I felt comfortable already with this new salon experience. I was very impressed with the time Colleen took with coloring and cutting my hair. She also was a wealth of information about styling processes and products. I enjoyed the conversation I had with Colleen and another stylist Midge during my appointment. They are professional but treat you as friends. Not only was I very happy with my haircut and color, but I love the atmosphere of the salon - it's glamorous with chandeliers but comfortable too, and parking is not a problem! more

Terry is not only one of the most talented hairstylist I have ever met but also one of the friendliest. She is a fantastic colorist and always gives me exactly what I want. Terry takes all aspects into consideration; the color, cut and style. I always loved her services and this time was no exception, my hair looks grate. She is a true professional and worth every mile! I went to Elan on a groupon since my hairstylist had just moved to NYC. Terry, who recently moved to Austin did and AMAZING job with my crazy wavy hair. It looks great natural and when I straighten it! I highly recommend her! more

I will have to say....it is worth every penny !!! I'm getting married the first week of October and was not sure if all I heard about the treatment was true or hype... Terry took the time to EXPLAIN to me the DIFFERENT KERATIN treatments that were available .... the pros and cons....well they all were pros the only con was that the one I CHOOSE you need to leave in the hair for 3 days without washing.....!!!! IT WAS WORTH IT !!!!!! THE SHINE, SILKY SMOOTH HAIR .... It's so nice to just shampoo my hair and go.... I still have the body but now my hair is straight, silky and a shine that turns heads..... no joke....that's the first thing people ask me is ...How did I get my hair so healthy with such lust and shine? I tell them Keratin treatment and the awesome hairstylist TERRY....It's worth the trip to Austin to get it done . more

I had an appointment today with Terry at Elan and she did a fantastic job with my hair. I was pretty embarassed because I had not had a hair cut in almost a year (I know). Although she agreed that was way too long, she made me feel comfortable then fixed it all up for me. At first I thought I was out of my element at such a nice salon, but I was immediately made to feel like I fit right in. \r I also really appreciated being given a suggestion on a product sold there, but it was never pushed and I didn't feel obligated to buy it....so I bought it : )\r Great atmosphere, great people, great hair cut! more

I have been looking for someone to help me with my frizzy, curly hair for over a year. I saw Colleen. She did a deep conditioning and a precision cut and style. My hair looked beautiful afterwards and was soft and smooth. When I went back to my office people litterally could not believe how beautiful my hair was. It was the talk of the day! Normally, I would not want to spend time talking about my hair, but that day it was so nice to finally find a style and looked that was great! She also gave me information on what I needed to continue my style. She worked with me regarding the product, although it is still hard to find a chemical free one! And when I styled my hair it was exactly what I was looking for. Colleen was great! The haircut was great! Her dedication to helping me to understand how to care for my hair was great! I highly recommend her. This is the first time I've ever written a review on anything. I just think she deserves the recognition. more
