Only if you're desperate 12/14/2010

Second time at Elan. LaRaye rarely greets me and has never had a positive word for me. I have developed tinnitus secondary to hearing loss--probably from attending aerobics classes for many years. When I bring up the high volume, La Raye's attitude is F*** you. I'd expect her to be concerned about members developing hearing loss and and increased chance of developing tinnitus--not to speak of her own hearing. I would expect her to respect my input; I am a physician. Repairing and replacing equipment seems to take forever. It took at least four weeks to replace a water dispenser. There is a reason for frequent turnover of membership. Elan puts on specials all the time but it doesn't follow through with customer service or even civility. LaRaye responded: ""Should I put my review of you on YELP! You made this personal and it is not. You know nothing about me personally or even tried to talk with me, you just assume what you believe to be the truth. I wish you the best in your fitness quest. I am sorry Elan was not the place for you."" My response to LaRaye: Re: "" You know nothing about me personally or even tried to talk with me."" I found her angry, intimidating and inaccessible. I did not want to expose myself to her anger. Also, she never asked me about why I was disturbed by the high decibel levels. Where was her curiosity and interest in the health of members? I've taught Pilates for 15 years. Elan offers two Pilates classes a week. While the woman who currently teaches the Monday morning mat class teaches an interesting, varied class, I believe she does not have a deep understanding of the work. From my point of view, she also lacks a sense of humor; I've nicknamed her ""The Pilates General."" Also, while the woman who teaches the Wed. afternoon class is sweet, she likewise does not truly understand the work. I find the man who teaches the ""Hard Core"" class totally unwelcoming. He assumes every member in the class to be part of the ""club"" of his class. If you're new to step or to his class, oh well, tough s--t. Further, as a Pilates instructor, I can tell that he is overmuscled and, almost for sure, has a weak core. I simply don't see him as having a functional musculoskeletal system and a balanced body. more
