El Patron is really known for 1 thing: They have awesome carnitas (pork). I've tried the carnitas at most of the Mexican restaurants in Chico, and El Patron has the best. A nice flavorful outside and tender inside, served in large chunks, I like it best in the large Chico burrito w/ extra onions and cilantro. more

Save your money and find a Taco wagon nearby. Or better yet Casa Ramos further down on East Ave. Pros: Within walking distance Cons: Bland, expensive CHEAP Mexican Food more

Not for Real Mexican Food Lovers 5/14/2009

If you are familiar with Authentic Mexican food, you will probably be extremely disappointed with El Patron. The portions are very generous but the food is incredibly bland and their "hot" sauce is pretty much mild. Last time I was there (I've tried both locations), I asked for jalapenos and they told me they didn't have any. How can you not have jalapenos at a Mexican restaurant? Very cheap, but not so cheap to go a little further to the taco wagon on E. 1st Street across from In Motion. more

el patron is one of the best mexican restaurants in chico! i always get the burrito with chicken, beans, rice, and red sauce. students can get a special which includes the burrito and a soda for a pretty low price!\r \r unless you don't mind longer lines and having nowhere to sit, avoid coming here between 12 - 1PM as all the high school kids from PV will be over here enjoying their lunch as well more
