My wife and I were looking for a local place to grab a quick bite. We spotted reviews in Urban Spoon and decided to give El Mago de Las Fritas a try. We're from MN and Cuban food in the twin cities is non existent. \r The Fritas were over the top good. Even better was the staff. They treat you like you've been invited to their home for Sunday brunch. If you have a long layover at MIA, grab a cab or rent a car and taste the best Miami has to offer. more

Went here yesterday for lunch and had a good experience. I ordered the frita con queso (with cheese) and it came on a nice homemade bun, shredded potatoes, onions, and of course, the frita patty. The frita was very flavorful and I loved the fact that they do not skimp on the onions. The person I was with ordered a frita a caballo (with a fried egg on top) and that was out of this world amazing. They also had some chicharrones (fried pork skins) which looked very good as well, but I did not order them. My only gripe with the frita was that the potatoes were a little soggy and seemed as if they were not as fresh as they should have been. I don't know if I just got the bottom of the barrel so to speak or what, but that would be my only complaint. The service was outstanding though, and I definitely will be back again.\r \r Also of note: $10 minimum on credit card transactions. The parking situation is also horrific as there are only 3 spots to park in right in front of the place. more

Ever since I was little and way before obama even knew about this place i've been coming here with my parents. I always get a cuban frita with cheese and a papaya shake. Simply amazing. Now what makes the frita so great? The owner his name is ortelio and this guy literally shreds his potatoes into julienne potatoes and fries them, usually restaurants buy this made already. He has this delicious sauce that he throws on the patties while cooking. This is what the guy was literally born to do so of course theyre perfect. more
