Editorial review from Citysearch 1/7/2014

Not good at all. I will never return. Not only was the service horrible but the food was kind of gross. The meat in the fajitas tasted like it had sat in the fridge for three days too long. Really horrible. more

Nice Family Owned Restaurant 2/21/2010

El Farol is a family style restaurant located in a strip mall. Artwork adorns the tan/yellow colored walls. Comfortable booths, cozy tables and lively music create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They serve authentic Mexican cuisine with beef, chicken and steak entrees. Appetizers, salads, side dishes, combination platters and desserts complete the menu. El Farol doesn't serve alcoholic beverages with its meals. Patrons are free to enjoy in the dining room or to order from the take-out menu. Pros: Really Family Friendly, Great Location, Great Food more

Best Mexican Restaurant In Town! 2/21/2010

One of the first Mexican restaurants in SLC, this restaurant shows the traditional style in their food. Try their ? n ? it's a nice twist on the Tex-Mex classic of nachos. Their chimichangas are crunchy and are filled with whatever meat you choose and are topped with sour cream and smooth and delicate avocados. Many of their customers have been coming to this restaurant since it's opening in 1967 so you know that this place is one good place. Pros: Awesome service, great food, clean restaurant more

Not worth the price 10/19/2009

I have eaten at El Farols since I was young. I always order the same thing everytime I go in. I use to be able to eat a nice hot lunch for under $5.00. Now to get the same thing it costs me over $7.00, that for only a Beef Hard shell Taco and a cheese enchilada...no beans or rice. No kids menu..not kid friendly.....This is why I don't tip much.......more money for food....less tip from me..... Pros: Location Cons: $3.00 for a hard shell taco :( more

Not worth the time 7/17/2009

We ate here tonight after seeing their 4 1/2 star review total. I was surprised how many people seemed to enjoy the place. I ordered bean burrito-which came out looking as though someone just threw it together and popped it in the microwave. Tortilla was crusty, the cheese inside was clumped up. Their Nachos were barely comparable to Taco Bell Pros: Nice waitress Cons: Terrible food more

Below average and not authentic 1/15/2009

After reading other reviews, we tried this place and were really disappointed. I love good, authentic Mexican food. In most Mexican restaurants, a good sign of authenticity is a large number of Mexican people eating at the restaurant. As we were eating, I didn't see a single Mexican person eating there. I ordered the chimichanga. Honestly, it tasted almost exactly like the frozen Jose Ole brand chimichanga I ate the day before for lunch. My wife's dinner (some kind of taco) was only slightly better. And the salsa tasted like Pace Picante. The rice was the only thing I enjoyed really. Not only was the food not at all authentic, it was below average in quality. That said, service was very good and everyone was friendly. Pros: Good rice Cons: The Food more

The Best Mexican food in Utah 12/2/2008

I have been eating at El Farols since I was a baby. Now I am 26. I love it. The food is excellent as is the service. I enjoy the cheese enchaladas and crisp taco's. I also absolutely adore the bean dip! And I do like the Chips and Salsa, but I grew up on it. more

Disappointing Experience 6/11/2008

We may have made the mistake of both ordering the same thing however the smoothered burritos are nothing to write home about. The chili verde burritos ended up being a tortilla soaked in bland green chili (no spice whatsoever). Maybe we ordered the one thing on the menu that is like their least popular item. Pros: Seated Fast. Service Was Friendly. Chips and Salsa was good. Cons: Smoothered Burritos and I could say something about the lady next to us but she can't help it. JK more

Absolute best mexican food in Utah 4/3/2008

Absolute best mexican food in Utah. If you eat here, you must order the 1/2 and 1/2 appetizer. The beans are incredible. The salsa is incredible. made from scratch each day - and it never tastes the same -but it's aways good. Local family owned restaurant that knows how to cook a good meal. more

Voted Hispanic Business of the Year 2007! 2/16/2008

Hispanic Business of the year 2007. The food is made from scratch. Nothing pretentious on the menu, just great homemade food. If you have a wheat allergy, they have plenty of choices that are great. Prices are fantastic. I can get a complete lunch for less than $6. My kids love that they can order a daiquiri with their kid's meal. We came on Valentines day and they had Candlelight dinner and Mariachis how romantic! Pros: Great service, Banquet room for groups, Great prices, Kid's Menu, close to freeway/trax Cons: no alcohol more

Friendly and Clean! 7/6/2007

very tasty food, although the chip sauce (like tomato soup?) left something to be desired. try the tamales enchilada style, they are a little on the dry side otherwise but extremely delicious! pass on the sopapillas...get a dairy queen on the way home instead. Pros: parking, easy access off freeway more

Wonderful Service 5/7/2007

This is great mexican restaurant. The staff is very friendly. The service was great the food was wonderful. The chili verde was the best I've ever tasted (next to moms of course). The salsa, however, left much to be desired but overall it was a great experience more

Good Food, Fast Service 12/1/2006

El Farol serves up piping hot food with great service...!!! I've been to this restaurant many times and have always found the servers to be attentive and helpful. The food is served piping hot on heated plates. This place can be busy on Friday and Saturday evenings but is well worth the wait. Pros: Good Food- Great Service Cons: Can be busy on weekend nights more

Great little restaurant 6/23/2005

I also have yet to be dissappointed by El Farol! This is a fantastic little Mexican diner that has been open for (if I remember correctly) like 20 years in the same location. The food is fantastic (very large portion sizes) the service is exellent. This my favorite south-valley Mexican restaurant. Pros: great food, great service, quantity of food more

Excellent, Fresh, and Authentic Mexican 5/17/2003

I am yet to be disappointed by El Farol. A great little family-run restaurant in Midvale. My wife had never liked Mexican food until she tried El Farol's Chimichanga. I prefer the Chile Verde. The tortillas are so soft and warm. The chips and salsa as an appetizer are excellent! This is the best Mexican in the valley. Pros: Good Parking, Quick I-15 Access Cons: closed some holidays more
