I took my friends to El Coqui so they could experience Puerto Rican cuisine. All of us especially liked the mofongo and the pernil. Bobby (owner) is a gracious host and came over to talk with us. It was fortunate for us that we went at a time when the restaurant was not crowded, as it can sometimes get when there is a live band there. The dance floor gets crowded and space is limited, as people love to come for music from Los Tainos, Exit 19, Sonando, Carib del Sol, or even the DJ's. If you're lucky, you'll get to hear Bobby play the guiro (percussion instrument). He's so good at that! The art work on the walls is amazing. It's like being in an art gallery. The upstairs balcony can get hot and the air circulation up there is not so good, but it can be pleasant to sit outside in the summer or fall. There has recently been a changeover with some personnel so there may have been some gaps in quality of service or food, but generally speaking I've always enjoyed eating there and have appreciated having a place to hear excellent music and being able to dance salsa and merengue.
Pros: Food is generally very good. Music is great!
Cons: Dance floor is small and can get crowded..
