The Scene
El Azteca is a Provo standardthe Rubio family has been operating the restaurant for 36 years. Just a tortilla toss from the BYU campus, the second-floor dining room hosts college students and families alike. On weekends, a mariachi band serenades diners by the murals of Mexican icons like the snake and eagle at Tenochtitlan.
The Food
The food is authentic and traditional too. Besides the tacos, chimichangas, and fajitas, El Azteca offers a sweet and tender mole poblano, menudo, sopitos, tortas, and more. Several kinds of imported soft drinks from all over Latin America are available as well. They even serve horchata, a popular Mexican rice drink. But no Dos Equis here; one reason the Rubios came to Utah was to have the chance to operate an alcohol- and smoke-free emporium. For family fare with a fresh and genuine Mexican menu, El Azteca is a reliable landmark.
