From Edible Art: We are writing in response to the review left by shannont1922069750. We were surprised and confused by this review. An email to us from the bride is posted below our response, and it reflects a much different tone than is reflected by the review, calling into question the credibility of the review. We have been honored to participate in nearly 100 weddings so far in 2012, and as you can see, have not received this type of public feedback from anyone else. Please see below. Thank you for all of your help. The cake looked amazing! The detailing was perfect. I would like to note, we had a filling for each later, but instead received buttercream only, instead of the fillings. The cake flavors were delightful, but definitely would have tasted better with the fillings, hence us choosing them. Quite disappointing, as we had picked out a pairing filling to maximize the flavor of the cake. I recall them being written during our meeting, so this must have been a failure on execution. Thank you again for the beautiful cake! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/22/2012

I purchased my wedding cake from Edible Art. They talked a good game; however, on the day of my wedding the cake flavors were wrong, and the cake had no fillings, the decorations were descent. Hardly any of the cake was eaten, due to the lack of fillings, and the cake layers being the wrong flavors. We now have an entire cake sitting in my freezer. The worst part was I had told all of our guests how excited I was about the cake and all of the details we had picked our with specific fillings for each flavor. They even called me on the day of the wedding because they lost my cake topper. All of the details of the cake are written on one sheet of paper. One sheet of paper that is very simple and easy to read and is dummy proof, a sheet of paper that wasn't followed at all correctly. How hard is it to follow directions on one sheet of paper? Apparently, for Edible Art, that is impossible. We later heard from a co-worker, his girlfriend used to work there and said it was the most unorganized place she had ever worked and they consistently book more cakes than they can handle. Very disappointed. I read the reviews before I booked my cake and I only wish I would have listened to the bad ones. Please ladies, carefully consider choosing Edible Art for your wedding day. I cannot change my fate...but you can! more

Awesome Cake! 11/16/2011

I have used Edible Art for 2-3 cakes per year for almost 6 years, and I have always had a positive experience. The staff at Edible Art, especially Sandra, has worked with me on both size and design. I usually email my invitation, and they always come up with a great design. The cake is always delicious, and we always get rave reviews. Ask for the buttercream icing!!!! Yummy! more

The Best...Period 10/5/2011

Edible Art recently prepared two cakes for my daughter's first birthday party--a larger cake for guests and an individual cake for her. The cakes were beautiful and well worth every penny. The taste was unforgettable. I've had cakes from Whole Foods and other higher end bakeries, and Edible Art definitely takes the cake. No comparison. more

Beautiful Work 7/26/2011

Lovely cake for my sister's bridal shower. Everything I've ordered has been delicious and beautiful. Try the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. more

Very Impressed! 7/24/2011

I've sampled several cake slices recently, and they were exceptionally tasty. Many icings, fillings, and layer flavors available. Almond/Amaretto/Vanilla butter cream was quite possibly the best cake I've ever had. Their artistic skills are impressive, and there is ample seating in the bright, trendy cafe. Highly recommended. more

Poor Presentation & Unedible 6/19/2011

We ordered a cake for my daughter's high school graduation and birthday and were very disappointed. The cake came to us with the wrong colors (orange instead of pink) and the top tier of the cake had slide off.\r \r Yes, we didn't check it before we left but assumed that a quality company would make a quality cake. We were wrong.\r \r We called to see what could be done and the answer was 1) nothing and 2) we'll have a manager call. No manager ever called. We also emailed photos. We live 45 minutes away.\r \r It was a disaster and we couldn't put the cake on the table ... used cupcakes instead. A day later (Sunday), since it was too late, we tasted the cake ... no taste and the middle was not cooked thoroughly.\r \r Spent over $100 for a cake that didn't look too good either ... for that price expected fondant to be used, not just frosting.\r \r My wife commented afterwards that she wondered if the business had been sold since the quality had gone down and she recognized none of the people. more

THE ALL NEW AND POORLY IMPROVED EDIBLE ARTS 1/4/2011

????? THE NEW AND POORLY IMPROVED EDIBLE ARTS \r 1113 F. 1 Edible Art \r I need to share an experience that I had today with Melinda at the Edible Arts location on Hillsborough St. in Raleigh. I called and asked to speak with the owner. Immediately, the tone of voice of the person who answered the phone changed from slightly friendly to rude and asked who's calling and what is this in reference to? I said that I was a colleague of the owner (I screwed up his name and said Brent Reynolds; its actually Bobby; sorry Bobby its been a while) and indicated that I needed to speak with him. I informed Melinda that I worked with him during the years that I was involved with the March Of Dimes annual charity events and that I had done some business with him in the past and that I wanted to bring him some more. Instead of correcting me about the previous owner's name, telling me that there was a new owner and moving on to business, Melinda proceeded to interrogate me as if I was somehow lying about knowing the owner at all, ""and when was the last time you spoke with him?"" ""I've worked here for thirty years and there's no Brent Reynolds here; Mechille is the owner and she's on here way out to deliver an order, you'll have to call back."" At the end of all this I was exhausted and just hung up. \r \r I did'nt realize that Bobby Reynolds had sold Edible Arts, but I'm sure he would be beside himself to learn about this type of poor customer service. Sound business relationships, friendly service and excellent quality are the elements that built the name that Edible Arts used to be known for while Bobby was at the helm. Melinda could have simply corrected me about the ownership and moved on to making a sale on the two cakes that I had planned to order from them today for two clients of my catering firm. It sounds as if some of the employees of the new Edible Arts feels that they are so busy and so great that they don't need to be considerate of every customer that calls on them. Maybe they think they don't have any competitors that would be more than willing to take on the orders of a catering firm like mine. Well, hopefully all is well with Bobby Reynolds, I'd love to know what he thinks about this. \r Yours in Good Cooking,\r \r more

YUM! 11/10/2010

I have always found that edible art hits the spot...sumptuous and flavorful and the perfect birthday splurge for family and friends. Try a sampler to pick the flavor that's right for you....Can't wait for the next birthday so I can save up my butter and sugar calories for and Edible Art Treat! more

Pretty cakes, NOT so pretty taste. 11/2/2010

I purchased a birthday cake this past week & as pretty and pricey as it was, I wished I would have asked to taste the cake first. We had vanilla with chocolate icing, it was very, very dense (heavy!) and tasted like...nothing, it was truly flavorless. It was almost doughy like, as if it wasn't cooked long enough as well. Next time I'll use Nantucket Cafe, as their desserts not only look beautiful, but are scrumptious too. more

Beautiful cakes, great service 2/1/2010

I was really surprised to read negative reviews of Edible Art. I've been going there for years, and have always had a great experience. Everyone I know loves their cakes, both for the way they taste and for how beautiful they are. Just like week I got a birthday cake there for a friend. I received good customer service on the phone, and in person. When I went in to order it, i was offered samples of all the cakes they bake--AMAZING. And when I picked up the cake, there were no problems at all and it was absolutely beautiful. They even offered to carry it to the car for me. This is a great bakery with amazing cakes and nice people. Pros: Amazing cakes, great customer service Cons: It's not cheap more

Real cake, real butter, real art 6/3/2009

They use real butter, their design team is professional and courteous, and you can trust their artistic ability. Pros: original and accomodating Cons: little expensive, but worth it more

RESONSE TO: No Good For The Money 4/24/2008

I have found Edible Art Bakery to be so wonderful. They have come under new ownership. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY DO NOT SELL A 9""CAKE SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW THAT. IT GOES FROM 8"" -10"". You sound as if you do not know much about cakes let me help you understand. YOU PAY FOR QUALITY. THE BAKERS BAKE YOU A FRESH CAKE AND DESIGN IT TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS. OF COURSE THERE WILL BE A PRICE FOR CUTTING A SHAPE AND ADDING AND MIXING COLORS. i WAS ACTUALLY THERE THAT DAY WHEN YOU ORDERED THAT CAKE AND HEARD THE LADY GO OVER PRICING AS YOU DECIDED TO ADD EVERYTHING THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY GET ON THE CAKE. SHE SPECIFIED THAT THE CAKE WOULD BE $98.71. YOU ASKED WHY ANSD SHE EXPLAINED TO YOU IN DETAIL THAT YOU WERE ADDING THINGS THAT DID NOT GO FOR A BASIC DESIGN. TI THINK YOU ACTION TO COME ON CITYSEARCH AND TRY TO DESTROY SOMEONES REPUTATION IS DISTASTEFUL. HAVING THE FACT THAT I WITNESSED YOUR BEHAVIOR AS A CUSTOMER YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO ACT IN THAT MANNER THAT YOU CAN GET SUED FOR DEFAMING SOMEONES BUSINESS. I WILL CONTINUE TO GO TO EDIBLE ART BAKERY. I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE SHOULD GIVE THERE OPINION GOOD OR BAD BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU SHOULD LIE BECAUSE YOU WERE EMBARRISED IN FRONT OF 6-8 PEOPLE ON A SATURDAY CAKE PICK UP. THE LADIES THERE WORK HARD AND THE CAKE IS MAGNIFICENT. THE KNEW OWNER IS WONDERFUL AND THE MAKEOVER IS TOO. I THINK ANYONE SHOULD DROP BY AND SEE AND TASTE THE CAKE FOR THEIRSELVES. THEN WRITE A FACTUAL REVIEW. more

Not good value for money 2/3/2008

I picked a cake from their book, and asked the price of that cake as it was in the photo. The cake was pink with edible decorations on the top and a slanted cut. I was told the cake was in the mid thirty dollar range, and commented that the price sounded cheap for a nine inch cake. The woman just looked at me and did not offer any details. So I ordered the cake, and the order came to $98 for the cake as pictured. \r \r So, thirty something for the cake, extra for colored icing, extra for the cut in the photo, extra for gum paste......the price she gave me was for a plain white 9 inch round cake, NOT the cake in the photo. I felt deceived because had she quoted me nearly $100 for a 9 inch round cake, I probably would have picked a cake elsewhere. Won't go back. It was not good value for the money.\r \r Also: this lady above is obviously the owner, and cant even spell response properly. Just gives you an idea of what kind of a business this is. When I went in and pointed to a photo of a cake in YOUR BOOK, I expected to be quoted for THAT EXACT CAKE, not a white cake without all the additions on the photo. I was not embarassed at all, I EXPECTED to be quoted the proper pricing, and PS.... I didnt pick this cake up on a Saturday, nor did I order it on a Saturday, and it was paid for entirely on the day of order so that the party planner could pick it up for me. So I DIDNT EVEN PICK THE CAKE UP, THE PLANNER DID. Pros: It was a cute cake Cons: Price quoted was incorrect and $100 for a 9 inch round cake is ridiculous more

BEST Cakes Ever !!!! 8/21/2007

I have been enjoying Edible Art cakes for some time now. They are very delicious and I'm always amazed at the artistry that goes into them. Thanks to all the Edible Art staff for being so helpful and friendly in helping me design my cakes. I will continue to be a loyal customer. Pros: Great staff and cakes! more

The Best Tasting Cake! 7/31/2007

I love cake and I'm always on the look out for the best tasting cake I can find. I was thoroughly impressed with the one I got from Edible Art. Their almond cake is the best I've had and it was beautifully decorated. I will be sure to get all of my cakes from them for now on. Pros: great tasting cake and beautiful decoration more

High price for low quality... DON'T TRUST THEM FOR IMPORTANT CAKES! 7/24/2007

I ordered a groom?s cake months ago to be picked up on July 13th. I must have checked 5 times to make sure that it was understood that my fiance is a Porsche fanatic and I needed the cake to be as detailed as possible. I sent pictures of the car from all sides, if more were needed I would have gladly supplied them. When my uncle picked up the cake and brought it to the rehearsal dinner my heart sank. Had I picked it up it would have been left at the bakery. I was so disappointed in the level of detail and craftsmanship it nearly brought me to tears. Over all the cake was ?fine?, it tasted ok considering it was, I assume, pound cake. But the look and overall effect I sought to achieve ended up falling quite short. The wheels were no more than an icing ?x?, there was no car name on it, not even so much as a tiny yellow dot where the Porsche badge should have been, no turn signal lights, and the over all shape of the car fell short as well. I would describe it as ?playschool? at best. When you pay over $300 for a cake you expect excellent work.... I put my trust in the wrong hands. \r \r So in my experience this is NOT an establishment worth your time or your money. The work is poor and the incredibly dense cake (that i can only assume was pound cake instead of chocolate cake that i ordered) was ok at best. \r \r I have tried via phone and email to contact the owner and have not recieved a response thus far. After reading the other reviews about how rude he is I now understand the lack of response. \r \r Should I recieve any kind of response or apology I will be sure to post again. Cons: taste, presentation, detail, customer service...etc. more

Edible Art is the Best! 3/20/2007

I am THRILLED! For the second year in a row, Edible Art has generously donated a beautiful, delicious and grand cake for our reception for Poetry Out Loud, a high school poetry recitation contest sponsored by the North Carolina Arts Council, the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. \r \r Everyone who saw the cake remarked on how beautiful it was, and how perfect it was for the occasion. Everyone who tasted the cake remarked on how delicious it was. Though we hesitated to ask a second year, we knew that we wanted the best cake in the Triangle, so of course we went back to Edible Art. We so appreciate the kindness and generosity of Bobby Reynolds, Edible Arts' owner, and the brilliance of the bakery's talented bakers and decorators! Thank you, Edible Art, for making our occasion so special! Pros: The decoraters and bakers are true artists. The owner is a sweetheart. Cons: Absolutely none. This place is perfect. more

SLOW SERVICE! 1/25/2007

I went in the other day to get desserts for a luncheon. I remember their cakes being fabulous, so i thought this was the best place. Well I was wrong...I went in there at 11:45am and ordered a sample plate, mind you all the desserts were in the cooler and ready to go! I didn't leave there till 12:15!!! There was only one person in front of me and all she ordered was a cookie and a coffee. I stood there forever and the women that worked there acted like they had a slow motion button turned on. There cookies were $2 each and they were not good at all! It's overpriced and DO NOTget the key lime pie! It's basically a light lemon cheesecake. Make your own, get Paula Dean's recipe its to die for!!! Pros: nothing, except fot their buttercream frosting Cons: Slow service, poor presentation, quality of food has gone down. more
