Dr. Akin and his nurse, Judy, are the best! I cannot agree more w/ the other positive reviews on this site. I first started seeing Dr. Akin when I was pregnant with my first kid about a year ago. For starters, I really did not ever have to wait a very long time. I think there were maybe two times with all my visits where I was not seen within 15 minutes of my appointment times, so I do not think that wait time is a con. Secondly, Akin and Judy make you feel as though you are the ONLY patient they are seeing. One time, we had to wait a little longer than normal, and Judy offered us some food that they had leftover from lunch. Like we were family! Dr. Akin is truly an expert. He shared a lot of knowledge with us... like he could tell which side I ovulated from and always gave extremely detailed explanations for why he does things the way he does them, etc. He is very thorough. And for a knowledge junkie like me, that was extremely important and fun! If you are pregnant, you may get to have more sonograms than you might w/ other practices because they have a machine right there in the office. Exciting? Yes! Although I know they are very busy, never have I felt like they were trying to hurry up my appointments at all! And I have to add that the whole staff is excellent - Cherie and his Nurse Practioner are also very attentive, encouraging and thorough in their care. Before Akin, I had seen 2 different OBGYNs and they were awkward and boring at best. I'll never go back! I never thought I'd say this, but... I can't wait to get pregnant again! I have been seeing Dr. Akin for about 6 years for routine gyn issues. My husband and I battled with infertility and thought I should see a ""fertility specialist "". After many failed visits with other docs, I went back to Dr. Akin and he found out what my issue was and now i'm expecting a healthy baby boy in the next few weeks. He's so compassionate, calm, and I really enjoy going to the visits because of him and his awesome nurse Judy! I trust him totally! I was told by several doctors that I could not have children without IVF. Dr. Akin was honest and told me that I only had a 20% chance that the tubal repair surgery would work. Dr. Akin was able to repair my fallopian tube. I now have a beautiful little boy, and am expecting another child(both conceived naturally.) I am not saying Dr. Akin can help all women with infertility, but he helped me. Pros: Great doctor and nurses more

Dr. Akin and his nurses are the greatest. I actually look forward to going to the doctor. I have been a patient for the last 10 years. He has delivered 2 of my children and I couldn't have asked for better care. He is always calm and caring and you never question any thing he recommends. He's just right on. I have never wrote a review of my own, always read them but then never felt a need to response. I have read all reviews and feel the exact same way as all of the positive reviews. I find it funny the two reviews not recommending him, had issues with either billing or lab work. It you weren't paying attention Dr. Akin takes care of medical issues not lab work or your billing for services, maybe before complaining about services he does not offer; step back and talk with the lab tech and get some better insurance. \r I have been going to Dr. Akin since 2002 and have not had any problems, he delivered my 9lb 4 oz baby boy and haven;t had any complications. Regardless of the bad experience others have I will never go to another Dr. until he retires. more

I have been seeing Dr. Akin for almost 21 years and he delivered both of my boys. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Akin! He is kind, gentle, and he listens to me (unlike most doctors). He always remembers me and the things I've been through during his care. His staff is equally wonderful and friendly. I am also an RN and I picked Dr. Akin many years ago while in nursing school because he was kind to the nurses and highly respected by them as well. more

I had been experiencing 'womenly' pain for two years. I went to 5 doctors. They either diagnosed me with an infection, which I did not have, or told me it was all psychological! I finaly went to Dr. Akin and he listened to my problems, came up with new treatment and diagnosis. Finally, when we had exhausted all other options, I went in for a minor surgery. I haven't experienced any pain since! Thank God for Dr. Akin, he really changed my life. I will never go to another OB/GYN again!!! more

Some folks post irrelevant reviews. They just want to promote the doctor. The one from cmatetich is almost identical to the one from ysanford. It is just rewritten. This place is for honest reviews, not for advertisement. Davebuoy is screaming to use the doctor. Pathetic! This poor guy enjoys his B.B.Q. at Iron Works. Dr. Akin is a Godsend. He was reccommended to me two years ago, and I have been using him ever since. Now I am six months pregnant and he is going to be delivering my baby in September. The nurses (especially Judy) make coming to every appointment so enjoyable! My husband and I both think he's wonderful! He always gives me straight answers and makes me feel so confident in him. He also gives the fastest pap smear ever...make that dreadful experience a little easier to deal with! We visited Dr. Akin for a regualr Pep test. We chose him based on the previous reviews. I now know that those are phony and written by the insiders. Our experience gave us a totally different view. We felt like they were trying to make a fortune out of a simple procedure. Their in-house lab charged for over 12 different totally unnecessary tests and kept charging several months after the service, not to mention outrageous doctor fees. Dr. Akin is the best doctor in the whole world! Sure, there is a long waiting period at times, but it is very much worth it. He has been able to help me with every problem that I have run into and has been very helpful by giving me all the information that I need and making sure that I was o.k. emotionally. Most doctors give you the bad news and walk away - he is very caring. His crew of nurses are very helpful and have always returned my calls. I have always gotten my results in a timely manner. Doctor Akin is the type of doctor that you can trust 100%. His staffs are wonderful, his financial department is very, but very reliable and open to negotiation. I have been seeing Dr. Akin since college--for 15 years now. He helped me through a period of infertility (I chose to stay with him rather than see a fertility specialist), and delivered my twins. He will also deliver my third child. He has many patients, and is busy, so the waiting room time is sometimes a little long. However, I have always thought that his staff was EXCEPTIONAL. He gives good, solid care. I wouldn't trust the birth of my children to anyone else. Parking is OK if you make earlier morning (7:30 or 8:00) appointments. I have been a patient of Dr. Akin for 5 years now. After coming to College and looking for a Gyn, I was pointed to him by my ex-boyfriends mother. Now, 5 years later, I'm still pleased with him and his office. I just spoke with them today, actually. Marge, in particular, was very helpful. Truth be told, I have had to wait to see him, sometimes for an hour- but honestly, you can't expect a Gyn, who's also an Ob to be on-schedule. If you want someone that you won't have to wait for, then go to a person that only practices Gynecology. I have been going to see Dr. Akin for over nine years. He has delivered both of my children. We had complications with our second child and Dr Akin was exceptional. He is calm and professional and I recommend him with out hesitation. I have never had issue with his staff. They have always been very helpful and returned calls when I had questions or concerns. I have also not had any problems with the desk staff. They do have a very busy office with multiple doctors in the office. The wait times vary. I have never been to an office that was ""on time"" I know it can be frustrating but emergencies can happen - especially where babies are concerned.
