First I will say the staff at Edgecombs is friendly, and that I own an older model Volvo, and do not expect it to be without flaws. It began with a water pump problem that cost $800+, followed the next week with a problem in the same system(cooling) again $800+. Edgecombs accepted ZERO blame for failing to see additional problems with the cooling system, and offered ZERO sympathy. We again had the work done with them because they had come highly recommended.
Two weeks after this repair I broke down in an intersection, with starter problems and had the car towed to Edgecombs. The repair cost $200+, and before I even payed for the repairs, the friendly staff tells me about how difficult it is to diagnose starter problems and how this was a good first step in the fix. Thank you for instilling confidence in your work friendly staff.
Turns out the friendly staff had no confidence in their work for good reason, $200+ bought me a lovely half day driving in my Volvo before it again failed to start.
I placed a call to friendly manager Sherry and was told that Edgecombs again had ZERO fault in not fixing the entirety of the problem, but they would love for me to have the car towed back to them so they can continue to guess and check at the problem.
While it is nice to deal with a friendly staff, I greatly prefer a competent mechanic. You can decide what you value more highly.
