Community Service With Octoberfest 9/15/2008

We drove from Wake Forest to attend the second annual Octoberfest and what a wonderful job Steve and his wife did. Such a large undertaking that really benefits the community by bringing people not only downtown but also to Selma. We were in admiration of how they were able to pull off the use of the street, the wonderful band, the tent, etc. and get special permission for open containers. So much work by so few for so many. We certainly hope the folks of Selma realize what an asset they have with Edelweiss in their midst. Food was wonderful, very nice beer in quaint setting with good entertainment. Who could ask for more??? Congrats to Edelweiss staff, family and friends for job well done. bob j Pros: Worked so hard to help so many Selma citizens Cons: Need larger area and less "obvious" police presence more

Edelweiss Bakery & Cafe 2/1/2008

We stopped in just to checkout the German restaurant. We began by having coffee and dessert. The mocha dessert and the whipped cream coconut chocolate covered volcano were delicious! Both were light and creamy. Better than any dessert we'd had in Germany. We decided to buy some hard rolls to take home but they smelled so good we ate 2 while we were there and then bought another 6 to take home to freeze. The rolls were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Just like I remembered from Germany. Our hats off to the German bakers. We plan to return for dinner very soon and have recommended this place to quite a few of our friends in Goldsboro too. Pros: Clean, tidy, parking out front and alongside the building, food and service great, German music very pleasant Cons: Not all menu items are available every day. more

Best Schnitzel and Blackforest cake 1/13/2008

The best Schnitzel I've had since I lived in Germany. The Knoedels were absolutely the right consistency, the potato salad was "prima" (fantastic). Of the 3 desserts I tried, the Blackforest cake was excellent and the tiramisu the best since I moved to the South. The bread and rolls were also very good, light inside and crispy outside. It is definitely worth the trip to Selma. The owner should consider opening a place in Raleigh - he would do just fine. Pros: best authentic food for the money Cons: in Selma more
