Dunbar's is back, in a new location!!! 9/7/2006

As of September 2006 Dunbar's is back at 501 Pine St. It's on the Broadway Campus of Loyola University, just off Broadway and St. Charles. It's the cafeteria of the student union for the law school, but the Dunbar family is serving up just like Freret Street. They didn't have flood insurance and haven't had money to re-open. They do plan to re-open on Freret, but in the meantime they're open for business M-Sat 7am-7pm Pros: simply amazing food, amazing price Cons: cardio killer, slow service more

Awesome 3/5/2005

Everytime I go to NOLA Dunbars is always on my to do list (often more than once). Well worth the walk from the St Charles streetcar line (would not go by myself though) more

A GEM 1/16/2005

Having visited New Orleans many times, I can't believe I'm just now ""discovering"" the most excellent Dunlaps. The 7 of us chowed down on the best fried chicken ever - and being native southerners, we've all had plenty of fried chicken. The service was great and the owners were charming. The cost of the all-you-can-eat fried chicken/red beans & rice plate has increased since the profile was written. $5.99 + $1 addition for white meat - worth every cent plus some! This is a great N.O. experience off the beaten path. Pros: food, service, value more

comfort food 7/28/2004

I lived up the block from Dunbars for two years. I freqented this haunt quite often. The food is so wonderful, I am from the west and it is hard to find anything that even remotely resembles good creole food. I would recommend to any and all of my friends. Pros: great food, good service more

Incredible Dining-A Must! 6/26/2004

I've eaten at alot of different types of restaraunts in New Orleans on vacation. Dunbars was & is my favorite experience. It is known to the locals as a great deal for its cheap eats. The staff are the nicest people. The neighborhood doesn't look the greatest but it is safe & friendly. I was very glad to have found this place. My favorites were the red beans & rice W/ chicken and sausage & the pralines were the best in New Orleans. This place is the best. Pros: Great Food, Very Inexpensive, Incredible Staff more

Red Beans 'n Rice, Mighty Nice! 9/3/2002

This is the only place I ate at more than once in New Orleans. Granted, the neighborhood isn't the best, but $4.99 for all the red beans and rice and good fried chicken you can eat? Commander's Palace it isn't, but this is cheap eats we're talking about here. When you get tired of being price gouged at the name places, come here for a treat. Pros: Good food, Cheap, friendly staff Cons: not a good area, Limited menu more

Worth a visit 6/28/2002

The neighborhood may not be one you frequent, but Dunbar's is a good reason to break with tradition. Unpretentious, friendly, accommodating and a great value -- really, ask for more if you're still hungry. more

This simple white-frame restaurant looks like dozens of other neighborhood eateries in town. But what sets Dunbar's apart is its trademark $5 special--an all-you-can-eat...
