Dumbarton Oaks - A relaxing oasis 8/21/2005

It is amazing to walk just off Wisconsin Avenue and come across such an oasis like Dumbarton Oaks. You feel like you are stepping back in time to a kindler, gentler world. The pool is something to see and while the general public is kept out, there is a sign that says the pools can be used by employees (we hope they do! it is stunning!). The patio room with the ancient trees is also beautiful to see. We thought the entrance fee was a bit high, but feel better knowing it is going to restoration work. more

This is a great place to relax and get away from the bustle of downtown DC. It is a formal garden, and therefore more manicured and structured than the National Arboretum, but it has some cool areas like a rock garden, an arbor, a swimming pool (though I'm not sure if that's allowed anymore!) and some wonderful places to wander, sit and relax. It isn't really the sort of place to thrown down a blanket and nap. Spring is the best; cherry-blossom time is especially good more
