Dr. Dumas is a Chiropractic Magician 3/14/2012

Dr. Dumas is a magician. Despite the first review, he is just a fast talker, not a quack or swindler. Also, what is wrong with trying to make friends in the first 30 seconds? Numerous psychological studies show that your first impression is made in one minute or less, why not make it count. Although Spycom experienced an unpleasant time with Dr. Dumas, I had quite the opposite experience. My favorite part is that he gives you one FREE visit for every person you refer to him, and the person you refer receives a FREE consultation visit and X-rays. When I walked into the office I was greeted by a smiling receptionist who knew the names of all the other patients waiting in the lobby. That in itself shows he has people returning for his services and he is not the terrible doctor he was described to be. I admit the video was boring and outdated, but it is just a tool to explain the process of the initial visit and the benefits of the chiropractic therapy. Once Dr. Dumas entered the room, he immediately got down to business. Taking x-rays, measurements and writing notes on my sheet. Due to my athletic lifestyle and my unfortunate luck, I was the recipient of two separate compound fractures in my spine, as well as several other random ailments. We talked and joked and once he was finished, he instructed me to come back in two days. He also explained to me the reason for the time between visits is to create a more thorough treatment plan for me and to take a second look at my x-rays. On the second visit, he explained to me the x-rays more in-depth and showed me exactly what he was going to do. I had never been to a chiropractor before, so I found his explanations to be comforting. After the adjustment I was a bit uncomfortable for a day,but nothing an Advil couldn't fix. My discomfort was due to my muscles being placed back where they should have been in the first place. They were merely readjusting themselves. It took more than one visit to correct my back pain from my sports injuries, it took time and it wasnt magic. I didnt leave the office jumping for joy because I was magically healed. However, I noticed a difference when I could get out of bed without pain and my feet going numb every morning or I could sit in a chair for more than 20 minutes without my pain being so severe I wanted to pass out. My treatment with Dr. Dumas ended after 12 visits, but I have continued seeing him for wellness visits and adjustments for the past year. I feel great and my pain has not returned! The adjustments also helped my headaches and insomnia, but that was just a bonus. Overall, I like to think of him as a doctor who prefers straightforward honesty and a small business environment, opposed to herding patients through his office like cattle. I would recommend him to anyone for anything. He even does acupuncture! If you are in the least bit curious, check out his website or find him on facebook more

Ouch 4/15/2009

I went to Dumas Chiropractic because of 2 reasons; I had a pinched sciatic which is sometimes out of control and it was the closest to my house. Apparently convenience isn't everything. I had never been to a chiropractor before and I didn't know what to expect. Certainly not an office the size of a double-wide that hasn't had a single update in 30 years. I definitely didn't expect or appreciate a country music station playing so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. And I absolutely did not expect Dr. (?) Dumas. After filling out their rather invasive and irrelevant patient demographic form I was brought into a room to watch a video about chiropractics. I was suddenly reminded of what I thought was a job interview fresh out of high school which turned out to want me to pay $500 to sell phone cards. After the video concluded, in walks Dr. Dumas. He talks faster than a used-car salesmen on amphetamines. He's that kind of person that tries to make a friend out of you in 30 seconds. And then he starts in with what I call profiling questions. Immediately I became uncomfortable with the whole situation. After all the measurements and x-rays were done I was told to come back in 2 days to go over the results. My next visit was the same as the first, uncomfortable and obnoxious. This time there was an adjustment to be had. Upon said adjustment, he came to a part of my back that because of an accident is very sensitive and was clearly shown on the x-ray. I was in so much pain I nearly passed out, and he acted like that was normal. I then mentioned the accident and he seemed surprised. Obviously he never read the chart I filled out. I was left in pain for five days because of this and have not been back since. With the lack of any true medical diagnosis, this guy came off as a quack. Nothing was ever asked about my activity level, diet or weight. Apparently these do not contribute to back problems anymore. Dr. Dumas has completely destroyed what little faith I had in alternative medicine and came off as a quack. Apparently the chiropractic creed is, ""We'll help you cope and hope it fixes itself."" Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Can't seem to fit them all here... more
