Being a native New Yorker living in Houston, the one thing I consistently found myself missing was an Italian pastry shop. I grew up with rainbow cookies, black & whites, sfogliatelle, cannolis, macaroons...all sorts of wonderful desserts that just don't seem to be offered down here in Houston (in spite of a large NY metro transplant crowd). Then I found Drew's Pastry Place and it brought back memories of my childhood. His pastries and cookies are absolutely amazing (he just started making my favorite, rainbow cookies, and is perfecting his black & whites as we speak) and when I came in for the first time today he personally came out to greet me. It is an amazing family business with superb offerings. Not only does he do the cookies and pastries, he also does cakes (including wedding), pies, there is gelato available, all sorts of coffee and tea, and now a lunch hour as well with pizza and other things. My only gripe is that I live in Katy and he is located up on 249 and Louetta...but it is still well worth the drive! I'll be there at least once a month to indulge in his treats and relive some memories of my childhood, as well as to support a much needed business that caters to an ignored niche here in Houston!
Pros: the only Italian pastry shop I know of in Houston
