I stopped in to the office of Dr. Warren Low, an optometrist in Lomita, CA. I asked for information, only, about getting a prescription for extended wear contact lenses, extended wear, for astigmatism. I also asked if someone would be patient and helpful for the fitting. He said yes to all of this, but then whisked me into the exam room without my decision. Since it was close to my home, I thought it would be OK, but he seemed very strange and was quite elderly. During the brief exam, he actually literally yelled at me some 4-5 times for no reason whatsoever, and demonstrated impatience and exceeding incompetence. I was shaken by this, and did not know what to do. At the conclusion, he gave me (actually they were hesistant about giving me my prescription but mailed it), an improper Rx and announced it could only be for regular lenses which required daily care. I was stunned at this and more so the price, for one pair:$240.
I paid the exam fee, and after I left I realized that I did not get what was contracted. I politely called and left a message to please reimburse my exam fee. After two weeks, with no response, I used a mediator and after another 6 weeks received their final statement: they called me a liar concerning the yelling, and justified their exam. I had to find a different eye doctor who was very kind, helpful and patient, and he prescribed monthly lenses for astigmatism. This new doctor and his associate, plus other posts, all say the same as me: that Mr. Low is rude, impatient, and incompetent and filled with ego. What makes it very hard is that I could not afford his and a new doctor's fees. I am unable to understand why $65 means so much to this doctor. I am very displeased with the service of him and his staff. Even the prescription he gave to me lists the area code as 213, when in fact it was changed to 310 in 1991. Please do not ever go to this doctor for any reason whatsoever; he is that bad.
