I suffer from bouts of anxiety/ depression, and was looking for a new Dr., to discuss meds, etc., and was in a very poor state of mind when I went to visit Dr. Kamins (this i fully admit) ... I provided him w. an extensive history however, and made him completely aware of what was going on w. me, in a very detailed discussion I was having w. him...\r
\r
- in the middle of our session, he informed he that I was ""snappy with him"" and defensive, and that it was not helpful or appreciated, and that it would not be helpful to the session... at that point, after coming to him for help, when feeling my worst, i was even more upset and frustrated, and asked him if he wanted me to leave??? - \r
\r
-He even asked me if other psych's. had ever mentioned this to me before... and he was wondering why i was so upset and angry... (hello, i am depressed, stressed - that is why i was there???!!!) - I have never had a mental health professional speak to me in this way, and in this profession, they should be able to deal w. ""difficult"" patients and personalities... it IS part of the job..... \r
\r
- what bothered me the most was how he made a big deal of telling me that if he did not want to help, he would not spend so much time... and asked if any other psych. ever had... when i told him ""yes"" he just said, hmmmmm. - whatever\r
\r
he made me feel uncomfortable and seemed to not ask appropriate questions, and listened to approx. half of what I was telling him... i left spending a lot of money, with little help, and will not be going back... - i would not recommend...
Pros: may be a good personality fit for some....
Cons: too complacent - difficult to talk to.
