Dover Natural Foods & Cafe

This store is wonderful! Occasionally they're really busy, but if you ask questions, the staff is quick to respond no matter what they're doing. Lynn M. (who wrote a negative comment down the list of tips) is SO wrong in her pricing. We have more than one Natural Foods store in the area, and Dover Natural is FAR FROM the priciest!! In fact, they're much cheaper than one of the LARGER health food stores in Dover. And just so ya know.....if I saw someone who kept putting their hands in their pockets while looking over their shoulder, I would ALSO think you might be stealing! C'mon....who does that?? Anyway, check this place out! The smell alone will make you want to come back!!! more

I actually live in Vt. and come to Dover frequently and try to time my visits for a green smoothie and the new book selection for the book club. I love talking with the staff they are always helpful and I have even called from Vt. and ordered products and had them shipped to me. I feel the staff goes out of their way to help or answer questions and I always compare them to what we have available in our area and they always win hands down .I truly enjoy the store and will continue to support them when I come to town. more

This is the most overpriced health food store around, with exception to the cafe. Also, don't be caught sticking your hands in your pockets in the place........I was accused of stealing twice!! They ""got me on camera,"" and, ""saw me looking over my shoulder,"" and, ""saw me sticking my hand in my pocket!"" Excuse me for living! I don't shop here anymore since I am treated like a criminal. more

I stop in at Dover Natural whenever I am in town. The selection is truly amazing. Organic produce, a whole gluten free isle, bulk herbs and supplements. more

Dover Natural is one of the best natural food stores around! and it includes a tasty unique deli! I'm a behavioral therapist for children with Autism. The children i work with often experience needing specific and altered diets to accommodate different gastro-intestinal problems. These many different accommodations can be found in the wonderful gluten-free products they have to offer. Not only are the products fresh, organic, and delicious, they are well priced for today's economy. Their service has been nothing but amazing the hundreds of times I've gone in there. Everyone is always so happy to help you! The deli is out of this world with home made and unique sandwiches and soups! I love going there on my lunch break or right after work on my way home. Always so tasty, always such good service too! more

@SDLKJLKL I find it interesting that you try to portray yourself as this reasonable, polite, intellectual as you use ad hominems to stress your point and pat yourself on the back. I fail to see why it's paramount for anyone to know or care that you are a vegetarian or what your IQ is or your profession. The only reason I can see you even stating this is to try to illustrate you are somehow superior to the person who was concerned about your dog? Your post was amusingly ignorant as I sat here reading it. You seem to think you are above some ""help"" showing concern over the well being of your dog and you don't need to be lectured by someone so beneath you. You really don't realize just how truly ignorant you come off and how your rating on the store means very little when your attitude comes off as a condescending child with a superiority complex. I've been to Dover Natural many times and have had nothing but a great experience there. They are extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere there is that of friends not rush-you-out-the-door business. The help there has gone out of their way to get me the answers I have asked if they didn't already know it. I would highly recommend Dover Natural for a friendly experience at a small local business. Your post is riddled with condescension and it reeks of a immaturity. I'm sorry someone hurt your feelings because they had concern for your pet and if it elevated to the point of them wanting to call the cops I don't think you were being as rational and polite as you seem to be trying to project yourself as. I'm sorry but I'm still laughing at the fact you actually had to put your IQ on your post. I find that hysterically funny. You have no logical skills to express a point when you need to insult people and try to put yourself on a pedestal. Nothing can even be taken seriously when you do this. I'm glad you are moving on to another store to be honest. One less pompous pseudo intellectual looking down at everyone else and taking up space. more

I am a little bit shy. That being said, I was introduced to Dover Natural by a friend and as soon as I walked in I knew this was a place I was going to visit again...and soon! The atmosphere just exudes positive energy and I felt comfortable immediately with the pleasant demeanor and willingness to help displayed by all of the employees. Not only are the people wonderful, but the food in the cafe is delicious (the juice, too!), and the prices are pretty reasonable. Plus, you can't get a lot of what they offer at a larger grocery store (trust me, I've looked!). This is a great place. I recommend it to everyone that I think might even have an inkling to visit a health food store, and try to convince those who are inklingless to try it out :-) So what are you waiting for?? Dover Natural is a great place if you want to eat well and tread a little lightly on the planet. If you want to pursue a cruelty- free life, even better. more

To Mr. Rude: You sound like a jerk! As a former business owner, I want to know why you didn't go to the owner rather than slam the whole business and everyone in it? It is people with low integrity that send anonymous on-line hate letters rather than confront an issue to the appropriate person! I've actually shopped at that store several times and always had a possitive experience! more

I agree 100% with Lynn. The staff at this shop are EXTREMELY RUDE! I entered the shop near closing time, 5:30ish, and had the AUDACITY to bring my dog along for the ride so I could take him into Petco afterwards and knowing that he likes to go for rides in the car as well. I'm in the shop no longer than it took me to pick up a vegetarian magazine and a box of Quinoa when this mean, ugly woman from the back comes out asking me if its my dog in the car and LECTURING me on how fast the heat can rise! She told me she had been outback and seen it in there for 10 minutes, which is hard to believe since I hadn't even been in the store that long. I politely informed her that I parked n the shade (directly under a tree, ie NO sun), the window was cracked, and I had a fully functioning A/C in the car. She told me that if I wasn't gone in 5 minutes she was going to call the cops! Now I'm sure this rocket scientist had read the wmur article about the dogs left in the car mid day in the sun for over an hour who were panting and lethargic when rescued, but I REALLY don't need to be threatened by some uneducated oaf whose only qualification is to sit behind the cafe register and make me a coffee or sandwich if I want one, which is what she should have been doing in the 1st place rather than on break in the back parking lot looking to cause trouble. Infuriated I put my items down without purchasing anything, left the store and drove off with my dog, who, obviously, was perfectly fine, not doing so much as a single pant since the air temp in the conditioned car was about 70 degrees. I'm a vegetarian, IQ of over 130 and an RN, and don't need to be wrongfully accused or threatened by some no-nothing hypocrite who acts as though she's some champion for animal rights & who no doubt went home after to have herself a big fattening chicken or beef dinner. Needless to say this stupid person just lost yet another customer for this store today, and if the staff here keeps treating their customers in this manner they will be lucky if the business itself isn't lost soon and they find themselves out of a job. And what Lynn has to say about your overpricing is 100% true and obvious too. I can buy the same exact marked up items sold in this store at Hannafords for much less, so why should I or anyone else pay more in your store if this is the way you treat the people who pay their hard earned money to keep your doors open and your rude, unappreciative, & uneducated workers employed? more

I love the fact that this store is run by a local family, and were pioneers in bringing natural, healthy foods to our town. The food that they prepare right their on the premises is something I look forward to, especially with my special, gluten-free diet. I'm impressed watching them meticulously researching and experimenting, mixing flours and soup ingredients to make some of the most wonderful gf foods I've found in any resteraunt to date. (The cinnamon bread is to die for!) more
