Don's has always been a treat for us, but tonight was a bitter disapointment for us, We were seated by the greeter/manager. We then waited at least 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by a server.
She apologized and said she forgot that she had this table. She took our drink orders and returned about 15 minutes later with our drinks.
We made sure and ordered a couple appetizers and our meal while we had her captive.
The soup and salads arrived in a few minutes, and then the appetizers a few minutes later. The appetizers were fine. The waitress failed to notice that our drinks needed refilled. We had to ask a couple times to have refills.
When our meals started to arrive, the server set the wrong meals down at our seats. A minor thing, but trying to sort out who had what steak and sorting out our side order options was an annoyance. Actually one of our orders did not arrive, and it was like they were holding the worst for last. One of our party does not care for charred meat, and she specifically asked that her steak not be charred. When it came out, it was absolutely black. She cut into it and found that it was not medium rare but more medium well.
The waitress said that she told the kitchen that this steak was not to be charred. She took the steak back and said that they would recook another steak. About 3 minutes later the bartender came to the table and asked what was the problem. After we explained the issue, she went back to the kitchen.
She returned with the original steak and said that that was the only way they could cook it. The thing was, all of us ordered our steaks medium rare. The only one that was charred was the one that was not supposed to be charred. She took the item off the bill but did not prepare another steak for the person in our party.
Our other steaks were not up to what we were used to from Don's. They were either tasteless or tough. Except for the appetizers, the meal and service were a disapointment.
