I tend to go to Donohue's in East Watertown fairly regularly, sometimes 3 or 4 times a month, mostly for drinks, but sometimes for dinner. The food at this neighborhood pub can actually be very good at times, and combining it with a pitcher or two of beer can make for a pleasant evening, especially if one of the spacious round booths in the right-hand room is available.
Sometimes I get a bit fed up with the place, though, especially when it's packed and noisy, and when there is (gulp) karaoke, which in paraphrasing Anthony Bourdain, is one of my two favorite things in life along with freezing to death. Whenever it's crowded and loud, I think to myself that it'd be better going to a nearby place like Conley's, especially since I'm a big fan of their pizza.
But my on-again, off-again relationship with Donohue's will likely continue, as it can be a fun place to hang with friends, and while the beer prices have gone up substantially over the past few years (especially for pitchers), it remains a relatively cheap night out.
Pros: decent food, pitchers of beer, comfy round booths
Cons: too loud at times, beer prices rapidly increasing
