NO BUENO! Not Good At All. You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em. Fold em on this place. The food here is absolutely terrible. This restaurant was once involved in an early morning assault in organized crime, and just crime ridden period, providence on an individual who resided next door. It also involved, the city, former mayor, city council president, and police department and it was done to try to teach the individual a lesson. A lesson which, like their place in life, they failed to deliver. The food sucks and get there before early morning. Terrible Food. I swear they went into the trash bin and reused someone else's unfinished meal. Great food, cultural ambience, and service. The drinks are fabulous! Margaritas are yummy. You can truly taste the high-end Tequila. more

my boyfriend and i went to don J during Providence restaurant week thinking we'll get a deal. they indeed comped our first round of margaritas which was good. however the guacamole appetizer was 2 oz!, the ceviche had only tiny shrimp in it and the waiter was not very attentive.....could be much mach better! more

Honestly, I had my 21st birthday there and it was the worst experience I have ever had. Not only was the service slow and unorganized, but the food was poor quality and does not fit the standards of federal hill. The waitresses put EVERYTHING on one bill for our entire party, even though some people already paid separately for some of their own drinks and food. So at the end of the night, we pretty much double paid for everything. I will NEVER go back to this place. Pros: decent margaritas Cons: bad service, bad food, terrible experience more

We were quickly seated but then the server never came back. Our margaritas took forever and when we got them, they tasted like ice water with no flavor. We had to ask for chips and never got them. The food was not hot and had no flavor at all. There was also no pepper on the table so you could not even add flavor. Not sure if the regular chef that all these other people had food from was on vacation but this one should find another job. Very disappointed as we just moved to Providence and love Mexican food. Authentic Mexican cuisine is the actual description for Don Jose Tequilas. The food is great, the staff is super nice. It is the place to go with friends, family or partner. And let's not forget, it is the place to be on Cinco De Mayo. My friends and I go every year and we enjoyed it like it's our first time. Pros: Best Strawberry Margaritas Cons: none more

I have enjoyed Don Jose Tequilas many, many times. I have had great food every time I ate there. The margaritas are delightful. Don't forget to try their sangria and the many fine brands of tequila they offer. If you are unsure about anything, ask the staff. I have always found them to be polite, professional, fun and informative. Whenever I had a question about a meal or a brand of tequila, they took the time to find out what I like and made their suggestion. Pros: menu, atmosphere, drinks, staff Cons: none more

Don Jose's was great! Considering the quality (and quantity) of food and drinks, ambiance, location and service I am rating this place a 5/5. i stopped by don jose tequilas for brunch and had the strawberry lime french toast. the taste was wicked filthy and it made me want more. i experienced some great mexican food and was in awe more

Don Jose has excellent food. They have great margaritas too! The service is good. This place get pretty busy on weekends. Prices are reasonable. more

My Girlfriend and I arrived and were seated right away. Our server also came over quickly to greet us and take our drink orders. The margaritas were Muy Bueno! The food was excellent ! Great chips and salsa. My Burrito was the best I've had since moving to the northeast. I highly recommend this restaurant. I know Federal Hill is Italian but do not be fooled!!! I just took a date to this place,........ It is not a place I would ever visit again. The service was slow, the margaritas, I tried 2 different ones were warm, lacked taste and kick. The food was cold, my chicken had bones in it and the sides were cold too. I kinda laughed it off, A mexician joint in Federal Hill, my bad. more

Tried this restaurant with a friend who suggested it. Absolutely no regrets! The Sangria was wonderful and the food was equally great. The ambience was fantastic...as were the waitstaff and our fellow diners. Looking forward to going back. Don Jose Tequilas makes great fresh Mexican cuisine (including their own delicious salsa), not frozen fast food garbage. And the prices are very reasonable. The place, which is easily accessible from anywhere in Providence, was redone recently, and the interior is very cool and inviting. The staff is very friendly--they don't even mind when I practice my awful Spanish on them. Say hi to Bartender Jaimie, whose knowledge of Tequila is amazing. more

We arrived at about 1:30 PM on Sunday. The waitress was excellent and provided very quick and thoughtful service throughout our stay. The Salsa for the table was OK. Our lunches were good, but in a bland way. I would have expected more from a top restaurant. Pros: Great Service Cons: Bland flavors. more

I Was told that there was a Mexican Restaurant on federal hill, I could not believe it ; Because the Hill is well known for italian Cuisine. I decided to give It a try. It was a great experience, yuo feel like you are in a little Mexican hacienda. The place is small but beautiful, Food is fresh and very authentic and being Mexican myself I know what authentic means. I try the molcajete Azteca, A Mix Grilled Sirloin Steak, Chicken Strips, Cactus. Served in Volcano stone dish with a Chipotle salsa. I didn't think that existed In the US. had it in Mexico Before. My Wife had the Cochinita Pibil, very nice roasted pork, Service friendly, good selection of tequilas as well the sangria. If you like the real Mexican cuisine this is the place for you. I arrived at Don Jose Tequilas with great expectations. I had read good reviews, and been told the same by friends, and after living for so long with nothing but bad Tex-Mex at local restaurants, I relished the chance to eat real food. It was a sad day. The dining area was well decorated. The ambiance was cozy, warm, and not too tight. Service was quick and friendly. The margaritas ordered by the table were good, but not great. I would have called them a little weak. For our appetizers we got the Macho Nachos and Don Jose's platter. The nachos were bland, uninventive, and bland. The refried beans were luke warm and dry, the salsa was as spicy as an episode of Full House, and the cheese was, for the most part, missing in action. The Platter wasn't much better. The quesadillas weren't fully cooked, the chicken was tough and over-cooked, and whatever they spiced it with tasted burnt. For dinner, we got steak fajitas, chimichangas, and a stuffed burrito. Across the board, the meat was tough, over-cooked, and flavorless. My tortillas for my fajita were cold. The chimichanga seemed to not have been fried at all. The tortilla had no crispness, and again the spices were bland and muted. The burrito was a similar story. None of them were finished. Don Jose's may have earned two stars earlier, but after my discovery of El Tapatio, which is so vastly superior as to be almost comical, the poor haunt on Federal Hill gets tagged with the only one-star review I've written. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Pros: Nice atmosphere, service, and drinks. Cons: The food... which is kind of a deal-breaker. more
