Don Jose Mexican Restaurant

The best thing about Don Jose is the view of Lake Jackson. It sits right on the lake and has a fabulous pier that I'd love to have in my backyard. We always take a walk out on it after we're done eating here. That's not to say the food isn't good. If you like Mexican, you'll love this restaurant. It's great and so is the service. This family owned and operated restaurant offers the best Mexican dining in Highlands County. The atmosphere is inviting, both inside and out; the menu is extensive; the food is good; and the service is acceptable. I have eaten here several times. I have several complaints about this restaurant. First, since I am not a big fan of spicy Mexican food, I wish they had some non-Mexican choices and/or more choices on the menu that aren't so spicy. It is very difficult to communicate with the wait staff since they don't speak much English. Also, we have wanted to eat outside on the dock to enjoy that fabulous Lake Jackson view, but there is never any room - even with trying to make reservations. Their food is fresh and homemade and everyone I've been there with has thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Don Jose's is open for lunch and dinner every day, with 2 for 1 happy hour in the bar all day.
