Best in area for Freshwater 1/10/2011

This is where I go for my fish. I drove around all of San Jose looking for a good place for Freshwater fish, and this was the best. I would say King is probably second, but I've only been there once. If saltwater is your thing, you won't be disappointed either. Don't go expecting to learn a lot though...the person that helped me 2 out of the 3 times I've been wasn't the chatty type. If you are looking to save money, buy all supplies online and only purchase your fish here. Local fish stores can't complete with petco and petsmart prices. more

Great advice, great selection, great store. 6/14/2010

They were helpful and patient, and the suggestions they offered have turned this into a wonderful experience.\r \r Because their aim is to help us make the right choices, rather than to simply make a sale, I feel good about every purchase I make there. more

Good pet store for salt water fish/ reef 5/20/2008

They have a good selection of healthy fish and corals, good and knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. It is also a fun place to bring the munchkins. more

Lots of fish 5/14/2008

Dolphin Pet Village was originally in the Kirkwood Shopping Center. They moved down the street near D&J Hobby when that part of Kirkwood was remodeled, and now they've moved back again.\r \r We usually go to Dolphin to look at all the different fish they have. My son wants another one... more

People who really care about animals 11/14/2007

As opposed to a lot of pet shops Ive been in, most of there employees have some base knowledge of most animals (even most herps!!) Several breeders and ex breeders work there and there animals are in great living conditions. Prices are so so, but if you buy something and it doesn't work out right they'll help you figure out what to get. It just seems that there not there to get $9.00 an hour or whatever they make. Pros: Execlent staff, very comunity oriented Cons: little pricey, meal worms not too alive/ maybe malnurished more

Carries less common varieties of pet 11/17/2005

Carries a lot of less common pets. I purchased a Netherland dwarf rabbit from here a few years ago and I have not seen another being carried in a pet store since. In some ways, I think this is a better place to go if you want to buy a pet than if you just want to purchase food or toys and other accessories for it. more

Depends on what you need... 5/26/2005

If you're here for fish, you're in the right place. Dolphin's has everything you can image for fish including rare and various species (fresh and salt water) of fish. Everything you need to set up a tank from 5 gallons to 100 gallons. They also have the most knowledgeable staff on fish as well. So why not a 5 star rating? First they are pretty busy so it takes time to get a person to help you. Also they are pretty pricey. You can get your basic equiptment cheaper at petco or petsmart and then get more elaborate items and knowlegde on your fish and tank from Dolphin. If you are here for dog or cat items, there isn't much here. All items are again more expensive then petco or petsmart. Don't go here if you're going for dog or cat items. They do sell rodants like guinea pig and such. They also sell bunnies I believe. Of course they have mice for your reptiles. If anything you can go there to show your family all the different animals and fish. PROS: wide selection of fish more

  • This business was established in 1965 by Bart and Brenda Fenolio (brother and sister). Bart started with an aquarium while in college and Brenda's interest in it grew to 40 tanks by the time she reached college. Their education was business management and biological science, respectively.

    Dolphin Pet Village started as a fish only store and expanded into pets of all types in 1970 in Kirkwood Plaza. In 1980 Brenda took over the entire operation while Bart went on to open a maintenance and custom set up company (check out the Cupertino Library aquarium). Many changes have transpired over the years including two moves with the last one in February 2007 back home to Kirkwood Plaza where we have had the privilege of three generations of Kirkorian landlords.

    Currently Dolphin Pet Village is happy to serve you with two generations including Brenda Fenolio Albrecht and son Tyler Albrecht. Tyler's education is in Enology (his wine is fabulous), but his heart and soul are in fis h. Funny how growing up in a pet store might do that!

    We are fortunate to have a wonderful, knowledgeable staff who knows that educating you is so important in guiding you to have the correct environment for your pet or fish. We are also committed to expanding your education to include original habitats of livestock so that you will join the task of preservation.
