I purchased these for our bedroom, which had an area rug but most of it ended up underneath the bed. What was showing was horrible, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I also have beautiful wood floors that I didn't want to completely cover (SD winters necessitate carpeting!).
I purchased two tiles (walnut and the greenish color) to see if I would like them and which color to go with. They were perfect. Very thin, yet cushy. I decided since it was in our bedroom to add a carpet pad underneath, and did not use the stickers sent with the tiles.
There are directional arrows on the bottom, so there must be some kind of ""nap"", but I doubt anyone would notice if they were placed incorrectly. They cut easily and you don't even notice three tiles are half the size of the others.
If you are looking for an economical way to freshen up a room, I would definitely consider this product. It vacuums up well and so far as stood the test of two dogs. I can totally see these in a children's room, kitchen or bedroom.
