Lotsa pineapple 6/18/2006

A nice place to stop during the drive from North Shore. The plateau otherwise is really boring - all you see is growing pineapple! They have some decent pineapple soft-serve ice-cream, you can get coconut shavings or pineapple chunks on top. Everything else is pineapple too: including popcorn. They have some jewelry stands as well, by local artists, I guess. The Maze is 8 feet tall, and you can ask for a map (we didn't try - we didn't have the coupon for free entrance at the time). Oh, and they have tons of info on pineapples. None of it useful (i.e. there's no way to choose a ripe pineapple judging from outside), but if you just like to be educated... more

Pineapples everywhere 12/1/2005

Well, not really. I was always too cheap to go in the maze or on the tour but I do love walking around seeing all the different types of pineapples there are in the world. It is nicely landscaped and there is a cute place to take pictures with those cut out holes to put your face in. Kids love to feed the kois in the pond too. The shop is filled with a lot of different souvenirs which actually are pretty nice. There's a lot of price points so everyone can find something to take back with them. Some of the souvenirs include food items, clothing and apparrel, maps, plant cuttings ready to take through the agricultural inspection at the airport. Of course there is the pineapple dole whip everyone raves about. It really is quite delicious. If that's not your thing, there is always good ol' pineapple juice. And as you drive to and from there you'll be greeted by pinapple fields all around you. It is a nice way to experience the island. more

Take your kids here 10/17/2005

There are lots of places to take your kids on Oahu but the Dole Plantation might be one of MY kids faves. We always have to ride the pineapple express, a train ride through the pineapple fields that has an explanation of the pineapple industry and some catchy music. The maze is fun too, although the younger set (under 3) may not appreciate it. The store is the one stop shop for Hawaiian souvenirs, and has some really good pineapple sherbet. We go ALL of the time! more

You got to try their Pineapple Ice Cream! 10/6/2005

I drool each time I think about their Pineapple Ice Cream. They are the best hands down! Everytime I get a chance to drive down that way, I always stop in for some. Of course, maybe it is because it gets a little hot in the afternoon =) The Dole Plantation is a local and tourist attraction and a great place to buy cute little souvenirs. The pineapple display will amaze you because I didn't even know there were so many different types of pineapples and from so many different places. The maze is probably one of the largest human maze in the world and it's fun to try it once. It's not big enough for you to get lost but watch out for the mosquitos! There is also a huge koi pond there filled with kois. You can buy food to feed the fishes or you can just watch them swim around for free. Go walk around and check out their cuttings! more

Its free need I say more 9/21/2005

This is a nice pineapple culture. There is also a maze entirely made out of plants. Thats pretty fun and commonly you'll get lost in it and have no idea where you are going. The food inside is great and has everything pineapple. Their pineapples are also great and fun to enjoy. Definitely a nice pineapple place. more

A must-see 8/20/2005

I love the Dole Plantation. I love pineapples and actually collect them (well, things with a pineapple motif on them anyway). The Dole Plantation is part historical, part amusement, and there's definitely a theme going with that funny-lookin' fruit... Admission is free but you will have to pay to get lost in the Pineapple Garden Maze, ride 2 miles on the Pineapple Express, or take a leisurely stroll through the Garden. It's educational and fun and at the end you can treat yourself to the world-famous Dole-Whip -- a satisfying and delicious frozen goody. The perfect culmination to a day at the Dole Plantation. more
