Don't Eat Here 3/4/2011

The food was terrible. We should have walked out when the scents hit our nostrils. But the hostess smiled and welcomed us in with sincere hospitality. After seeing the buffet only a blind man should have stayed...but we sat down. My husband ate most of what he took from the buffet. I spit out most of it and ate when we got home....by husband ran for the toilet when we got home. And he kept running for the next 24 hours. Afterward i talked with friends about the Doe Run and they said we should have asked. it's been terrible for years. Never again. We didn't complain because the staff was so cheerful. They have no idea how terrible the food is. more

A little piece of Eden in Meade County 3/14/2009

This is a great comfort food restaurant. The building is an old mill, 200 years old and has a view of a creek and an island. The inside of the restaurant is rustic and filled with antiques. \r \r They are nothing but comfort food, fried chicken, steaks, country ham, chicken livers, braised brisket, hot browns, etc. There are a choice of 10 sides. Since the new management took over in January, all the food is much improved. They use fresher ingredients and they make everything in house now. The chicken is all cooked to order.\r \r On Sunday, they have a huge buffet with bbq, fried chicken, meatloaf, other meats, soups, salad bar, lots of sides, and lots of desserts. It's pretty good and a lot of church groups and families come in after church. They tell me that there have been generations of families that married here, had their reunions here, and even had their ashes spread on the island. It's really a community resource.\r \r Probably the most overlooked part of the place is the breakfast and lunch menu. They have a ton of choice and you can get in and out a lot quicker than you can for dinner. People from out of state fall in love with this place and they have yearly reservations from people who have to make the trip at least once a year. Pros: Food, decor, view Cons: No cell service more
