Dobson Ranch Animal Hosp

I rescued two kittens from an abusive owner and was looking for a vet who was caring, thoughful and low cost. I was told of Dobson Ranch by someone and called. They were informative, a little too expensive, but I felt at ease when talking to them. I made an appt. and took my two kittens in. After three visits I thought I found a great place. Then it happened, I could not afford to have my kittens spayed and neutered (because one was male and one was female), so I looked up a low cost vet and found one. Much to my suprise, Margo the famale, was indeed a male! How can a vet miss this? This tells me that the attention and care I thought I was given was false. I guess it's quick in and quick out for them. I will no longer be taking my kittens to Dobson Ranch. I wonder if they have done this to anyone else. And what would have happened if I took them in to get spayed/neutered? Would they have noticed then? more

I took my hairless rat for a followup on an emergency visit where she'd had a large-ish laceration glued up. I called ahead to get the base price so I'd know what I was paying pre-medicine, but they actually charged me $10 less than quoted because it was a "quick" checkup. Little differences like that make a big impression on me--they show attention to detail. Also, the doctor (who's name I unfortunately did not catch) was very friendly and gentle with Whitney, who is very squirmy. I'm planning to take my cat there soon as well! UPDATE: After reviewing my rattie's discharge papers, I discovered that we had Dr. Heffelman. I thought he was perfectly pleasant, and moreover was helpful and the one behind the monetary reduction. Secondly, I've taken my cat there to find out she has kidney failure :( but they've been incredible in helping me find reasonable solutions that will keep her having a high quality of life without all of my money disappearing. Dr. Kender has been helping Harley (my cat) and she is also wonderful. These guys are willing to help you find the most affordable, palatable, and useful versions of the medicines they want your pets to take. The staff was amazing they treated my pets like they where there own. I will always go here. Unfortunately we had to see dr. Heffelman he talked down to me and made me fell inadequate, if you can request to see another doctor. Dr. Barnard is great, or dr. Kender. What will always keep me going there is the amazing staff. Doctor didn't seem to know what he was doing, very unprofessional. I had to tell him what to check on my dog. This was a follow-up visit. THEN when I was checking out, the front desk lady was on the phone talking... I stood there for about 60 sec before she saw me and she was rushing so that she could get back to her phone convo. Didn't seem like they really cared about my dog... will NEVER go here again. Pros: None Cons: Unprofessional staff and doctor more

I had been using another local vet for years. One of my dogs had a bad allergic reaction to food, and my usual vet said they could not fit her in. I took my dog to Dobson Animal Clinic the same day, and they fixed her right up. I had a cat that was very sick, and they also got her in the same day. Unfortunately she had feline leukemia and had to be put down. The office sent me a very nice personalized card about our family's loss. They always make room for our family's animals, and I never have to wait. Both of the vets are fantastic and are very good at their jobs. The office staff is super friendly as well. They are less expensive than the last vet I used, and I feel good about taking my 2 dogs and 2 cats there. I am an animal lover and I highly recommend this office! We have been going to Dobson Ranch for quite some time, but it wasn't until Dr. Baker started there that I truly felt like we were getting the best care for our 3 dachshunds. The dogs adored him and we felt very comfortable. One one of our litters, he was able to diagnose one of the puppies with a very rare disease...which we read horror stories of people going months, even years, without their vet figuring out what was going on. Any surgery we never worried because we knew that Dr. Baker treated our kids like one of his own. Unfortunately for us here in Mesa, Dr. Baker has recently left Dobson Ranch Anial Hospital and gone to Oregon. If it wasn't that far, we'd still take the babies to see him for their check ups. I had been using the same vet for 20 years, and driving quite a distance, as I am very particular about the care that my 3 dogs receive. At a family members urging, I took one of my dogs who suffers with arthritic pain to Dobson Ranch Animal Hospital, as I was unable to see our usual vet. Dr. Baker started with the least intrusive recommendations, which I was impressed with. He was very kind, easy to talk to, and prescribed a medication that has greatly relieved my dogs pain. I have since returned to Dr. Bakers office for a variety of reasons, and have always been treated extremely well. I am THRILLED to have found a kind, competent vet close to home. more

I searched for a vet for two years after moving to Dobson Ranch in 2004. While continuing to take my elderly dog to her previous vet in North Phoenix, I tried several clinics in the area with my other dogs. Since meeting Dr. Baker, I'm finished vet-shopping. The clinic is immaculate, and I have never waited more than a few minutes to be seen. The office staff and technicians are all friendly, caring, and competent. Dr. Baker has a lot of energy, a sense of humor, and a no-nonsense approach to problem solving. He now cares for all (four) of my pets, including the 16-year-old Cocker Spaniel. I would not hestitate to recommend Dr. Baker and the clinic to anyone looking for quality pet care. Pros: Late office hours; convenient location; friendly staff Cons: None more

My golden retriever was having an allergic reaction that started at 3AM. I went to my regular vet and they couldn't fit me in. So then I stopped at Dobson Ranch because it was close by. They were busy, but told me to bring my Charlie right in and they would see him immediately. The staff was very friendly and made me feel welcome even though I didn't have an appointment. I was very impressed with Dr. Baker, he seemed to know what to do for Charlie. He got a couple of injections and was feeling much better within a couple of hours. I did not have a very plesent experence at Dobson Ranch Animal Hospital in Mesa, Az. The Dr. Wes Baker, was not very friendly, and It didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. I do not recommend this animal hospital to anyone. Pros: Clean building Cons: Not friendly, didn't know what he was talking about. more
