This is where I usually pick up all of my CDs. Most of the single CDs will be $10.99 even the new releases, and some are even less. The only problem with this store is that if an item is popular they do sell out quick. There are 3 locations in New York, that I know of, and they also have a website: www.discorama.com. There are two locations on West 4th Street near 6th Ave, within two blocks of each other, and a location on Union Square East. Each store is a bit different regarding this music they specialize in. The location on West 4th, East of 6th avenue, definitely carries used CDs as does the location in Union Square, not too sure about the location west of 6th Ave on West 4th Street (Main Store) . Kind of run-down music store in the west village offering a wide selection of tunes. This store is definitely no virgin mega store but it has a certain charm that reminds me of the movie, high fidelity. In addition to music, they sell movies and are an authorized ticketmaster location. They will also buy back new or used CDs so once you've downloaded them onto your itunes/iPod, you can make room in your apartment by selling them here. I'd say the major drawback is availability and price; they just can't offer the deep discounts the mega chains can but they're still reasonably priced. more

I love to scour the sales rack. Often you can find excellent sleeper hits as well as top 10 titles from a few years back. They don't have a lot of sections so you kind of have to look around to find what you're looking for - but I can often go in there with $20 and leave with 6 good CD's. My husband likes to stop in on his lunch breaks too and will come home with a few CD's. They don't really have much for new releases, but you can find some out of print merchandise if you look hard! more

As rents in the West Village continue to skyrocket I'm always amazed at how these guys hang in their. The selection is good but not great as they don't seem to specialize in any one kind of music. They do some heavy discounting which is nice if you find something you have a passing interest in but don't want to pay full price for it. The staff seems to come and go and can't answer the complex questions but can help you find what you are looking for if you know the CD's name. more
