Best

We went here for a special occasion and cannot wait to return. It is expensive and should be reserved for special occasions, but I cannot imagine any reason why it would not more...

Worst

If I could sum it up in one word, it would be arrogant. The chef used obscure flavors and ingredients just for the sake of being ""creative,"" but rarely did they compliment each...

Very much worth the experience 8/30/2003

We started off with the lobster salad which is so good. Generous amounts of lobster and perfect flavor. We also had the braised beef with melon appetizer - unreal - so good. For the main course, she had the striped bass which was quite good, and I had the herb stuffed rabbit shoulder. The rabbit was simply amazing. Dessert was okay. We had the chocolate hazlenut concoction, as well as the rasberry mille fuille - basically layers of pastry, fruit and cream. Very good but not quite the big bang ending we were hoping for. Service was excellent. The formality thing is a bit much for me. My GF is not ""madame,"" and I don't need a new napkin everytime I set mine down. went to the Dining room for my anniversary and have to say this was the absolute best dinner ever. Service was top notch. If you want to be treated like a king this is the spot!!! more

Almost perfect 1/12/2003

I had the tasting menu and every single item was just exceptionally pleasing to the palate. The wine pairings are just as impressive. Impeccable service. I've gone back twice and would still plan to go back. Pros: excellent food, impeccable service, excellent wines more

It was my first time to the Dining Room. This place is by far the best kept secret in San Fancisco. the wine pairings and the cheese cart are amazing. warm and friendly staff. This place is all about creating the perfect dining experience. We were extremely impressed. more

the cheese cart was my favorite. the service is what you would expect while dining at the ritz...knowledgeable, helpful, and curteous. the ambience isn't my ideal (stuffy and older crowd), but it's fun to get dressed up and go somewhere nice... Pros: cheese cart! Cons: stuffy more

The food was excellent and well served. The service was superb. When i have a special occaiscion i like to bring my friends and family to the ritz. the pastry chefs are to be applauded for the beautiful, professional and flawless presentation of the final course......the extra bonus is the rich flavors and combinations of ingredients that delight the palate...a perfect treat to the end of any meal. This is truly the place to celebrate your special occasion. You feel pampered from the friendly greeting to the Hotel to the warmth and graciousness from the staff of The Dining Room. The food is spectacular - be sure to have the Lobster Salad. Also, the wine pairing is the way to go. Without a doubt, the most memorable dinner I've ever had in San Francisco. An unexpected surprise in a SF landmark 8/15/2002

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Ritz-Carlton dining room...Most people's first thought when you speak of the ritz is ""stuffy with a server looking over your shoulder every two seconds."" Absolutely the opposite- the room was completely relaxed, the service gracious and extremely friendly, and the food was amazing- especially the wonderful selection of cheeses...And all this before the dessert! The dessert, I have to say, was the best I have yet to have in the city...or ever, for that matter...I would recommend the ritz to anyone and everyone...
