This Modesto masterpiece is pricey but the ingredients are super fresh. They cut no corners. My husband and I finally got a rare date night and truly enjoyed it. The service is five star and the spinach and potatoes was a new thing for me and is now my favorite. My husband is originally from Texas and compares all steak to what he grew up with. Very rarely finding the perfect cut. Not the case here. He normally complains about not having a ""real"" steak seasoned with just salt & pepper but the blue cheese incrusted filet kept him content and wanting to come back for more. For whatever reason my family HATES this place but I love it! Great wine suggestions, great bread pudding and fish!!! But like I said, the family cannot stand it. So beware picky eaters. Pros: great caesar salad and seafood!!! Cons: strange salad maker....cut your hair or groom yourself! more

My wife and I have gone to dews quite a few times. I actually proposed to my wife at the old location. I love the food and service. The problem we've had the last few times is when we call for reservations they ask the occasion. Why would you market yourself as a special occasion only restaurant. I realized that we only go once a year, but last time our bill for two entrees and four drinks was 150$. Its absolutely insane!! Maybe if they charged 20 a plate instead of 30, or charged 20 dollars for a 10 dollar bottle of wine instead 35, more people would eat there. And do it more often. I love the food so much that I would eat there at least once a month if it was more affordable. I mean come on were in a recession here people. My wife and I have come to terms with the fact that it just isn't worth the money. I am willing to have lesser service in another restaurant if it will save my 75 dollars.... literally 75 dollars saved on a comparable meal. unbelievable?? This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who stumbled upon it randomly, who could not stop raving about it. I went there a few weeks ago while visiting the area from New York, and I could not beleive there was such a great place in Modesto (no offense to Modesto). Terribly inattentive service for our lunch party of 6 at 11:55AM on Saturday 8/18/07 with just 3 other tables occupied. No one ever asked how our food was. I waited 20 minutes for a glass of water after I did not order a ""drink"". Dewz was a great experience. I made a reservation which I believe was lost but after the service & the food it was well worth the 15 min. wait. The wait staff was on top of their game. The wine list is huge. I had the Pineapple Upside Down Cake Martini which was sweet heaven. The atmosphere was nice to take your time & talk. My husband ordered the filet which was one of the best steaks he has had in his life & we travel quite a bit. Our server was kind & truly knew the menu inside & out. Someone had recommended the calamari to me at work so we went with it. It was a gigantic portion. It wasn't rubbery like calamrai can be at other eateries. Then of course we had to finish w/ the creme brulee. I guess they are kind of known for it b/c they change its flavor all the time. We had mango. The serving was plenty for 2 & they torch the dessert right in front of you. Scrumptious!!! We can't wait to take family or people from out of town here. Dewz is a marvelous and scrumptuous restaurant for couples or large parties. The seafood is prepared to your liking and is by far the best you'll find in the Modesto area. The service is fantastic and exceptional. The ambiance and classy atmosphere is like that of a dining experience in the city. Since truly exceptional dining is rare in Modesto, you must try Dewz, for it's metropolitan style of dining. more

Nice looking, upscale ambience. Service has always been spotty, with periodic long waits. Most of the menu is so-so. Recommend the fish - especially the Macadamia Nut encrusted Mahi-Mahi with the orange sauce. Try splitting the large salads between two people to save a few bucks. I took my wife to Dewz Restaurant for her birthday because it was highly recommended. We were seated right away. The staff was very friendly. We were able to share a salad, which was very good. Then we waited over 1 hour to be served our entree which was awful. I ordered veal scallopini, which looked as bad as it tasted. It was overcooked and like leather. The veggies were rubbery. My wife ordered salmon, which was just fair, but her risotto was mushy. I might try Dewz one more time, just in case it was an off night for the chef. more

Dewz is a great place for the whole familly, the owner of the restruant takes especially good care of children. He brings them out toys, break proof glasses, and will make them something enjoyable to like. The owner goes out of his way to make sure customers are very happy. I have had the pleasure of dining at Dewz many times and I must say that every meal has been delightful. For an extra special treat order the Gatteau Riche (correct spelling?) for desert you will enjoy every bite. more
