Awesome... Hands down, best gym in area... 4/25/2012

Gotta say, Devon Fitness Club is the best of the best... Been here for a while and the front desk staff rocks, the trainers are professional and very knowledgeable, the owners are very personable and passionate about health & fitness, and they have a new General Manager who actually knows how to offer exceptional customer service and is also a very professional and intelligent Marine Corps Veteran as well, which speaks for a lot in itself... He's always available and strives to accommodate the members' needs. Seems very honest too. Don't be fooled by any ill tempered reviews, because that's all they are, ""ill tempered"" all day long, about everything I assume... Anyone who writes a long winded bad review obviously has personal issues and can never be made happy about anything and probably feels a sense of entitlement for everything under the sun. I've belonged to 3 other gyms in the same area over the past 13 years and I gotta say, Devon Fitness Club is the big winner and I ain't going anywhere else... Also, my trainer is totally awesome here and has helped me beyond belief over the past couple years. I highly recommend joining as well as hiring one of their trainers. I promise you won't be sorry... more

One of the worst gyms I have ever seen 1/11/2011

I would recommend you not agree to a long contract here. For the past year (you are committed to a year if you don't want to pay a lot more for your membership), I have seen a number of people start this gym and quit after a short time. The facility is dirty, the teachers are not committed to their classes and start late and end early --I have seen one teacher run out of the classroom before the students pack up -- and in my own personal experience, after one such classes, she raced out of the parking lot in a truck and almost hit me. The class started 20 minutes late and stopped after 25 minutes. In most gyms the owners look at how many students are in each class as an indicator to their happiness. This particular class only had TWO students and I never went back again after the aforementioned incident. There is no point in getting ready for a class and rushing to be on time to find the teacher starts really late and then does not even teach the class for more than 25 minutes even when the schedule said it was a 1 hour class and there was not a class before or after it -- it was at noon. The other student said that she would be there when I asked after 15 minutes if she thought the teacher would show up. She said she had seen her out on the gym floor and that she was always late. The classrooms are filthy and the classes do not seem to be taught for the students. Most students cannot keep up and I have seen new students start classes and then leave after 10 or 15 minutes and have had one tell me that they just couldn't do it. Most of the classes never start on time and I have never seen a teacher go over the poast stop time to make up for the lost time, have teachers that talk about their vacations and other jobs DURING the classes, people use cell phones in the facilities and even during classes, music is obnoxiously loud during some of the classes. One of the classes had no light in the room (hip hop type dance class) and artificial smoke blowing into the classroom to create some type of ambiance, along with music that was unbelievably loud, so that it was obvious it was hurting the ears of a number of students. When the teacher was asked to turn down the music, she refused. Don't even think about talking to the owner about any problems. I tried this. She is not concerned. Remember, once you sign up, you are in an ironclad contract for a year and there are always new people making New Year's resolutions. Parking is attrocious. And, yet, where are the people? Oftentimes, there is no parking and you see only a few people in the club. Perhaps people use the parking lots while they are going out of town? I have never been able to figure this one out. Also, if you think that a class is going to be similar to something you have been accustomed to at other clubs -- ie., regular yoga being yoga, or pilates being equal to pilates at other clubs, or Zumba being what it is at other clubs, in my experience, it is not. I will not extend my membership. Oh, and a very large mirror fell off the wall and hit a member in the back. I would say, at the least, insist on trying it for a month before you commit to more time. It is too expensive to find out after you are in a contract which you cannot break that this place is dirty, you will be asked for money and participation in charity events (which, incidentally, preempt regular classes taught here so that you are not only not getting the classes and time that were supposed to be included in your membership but you are also asked to support someone else's charities), the classes are not as posted on the schedules, and the teachers do not seem at all concerned whether students are getting hurt because they aren't getting properly warmed up, aren't being listened to at all. These are just a very few of the problems you will most likely experience if you join Devon Fitness in Devon, PA. more

Best Reputation Ever! 5/18/2010

I just joined Devon Fitness Club after reading some amazing articles on them in the Philadelphia Inquirer (January 10, 2010) and Chester County Life (May/June 2010 issue) – what great people and what a great business. The owners are life-long residents of the area, they’re there every day and they support breast cancer and Make a Wish among other charities! I love it already – the club is top-notch and professional - it’s just the type of business I want to be associated with! more

Only Clean Club in Area 4/28/2009

I belonged to Planet Fitness prior to joining Devon. The price was great there, and that was the only thing great about it. Devon is clean, staff is helpful, trianers seem knowledgeable. I used their free trial week before joining to decide if it was worth paying more for, and it definately is! It's actually cheaper than the YMCA, and makes more sense if you're looking for just yourself and not a family. It's nice to workout with people my age who don't all look like meatheads or barbies. Pros: Clean Cons: Pricier than Some more

Not worth the price 7/13/2008

Those in the gym were rude..including staff ( not helpful). Club is overpriced, good machines, but other gyms in the area with better prices. Not worth the price, personal training was less than one star. more

Fabulous Staff 6/9/2008

I don't love to work out, but I love this club b/c the staff there makes it bearable. They're super friendly and greet me by name every time I walk through the door. The personal trainers are very knowledgable, helpful- and very patient!! I love that the classes are free and I don't have to sign up for them. I used to have to go to a different place for yoga, pilates and just to use a treadmill, this place has everything under one roof. more

Best club I have EVER been to and I have been to a lot !!!! 7/27/2006

I am from Cali and this is the coolest best equiped club I have ever been to!!! Great staff, equipment and atmosphere that is more Cali than a Cali club. Gotta see to believe !\r This place is beyond clean! The only time it gets bad reviews is when the competing gym owners write them! As for over priced: Another gym in the area just closed because their members would not pay the average it takes to keep a club open. If its too expensive you are too broke! Go to Devon and hang with smart people with jobs! Pros: everything! Cons: Not more like it in the USA more
