In Avalon, the island's eastern village, day-trippers on golf carts and bicycles cruise along the picturesque bay waterfront; a single main street is lined with Art Deco buildings housing shops, galleries, a ballroom and penny arcade. Restaurant decks overlook the harbor's fishing, boating and sunbathing scene. On the west end, the more rustic Two Harbors village is a coastline hub for hikers, kayakers, divers and Jeep eco-tourists. Accommodations range from primitive campgrounds to historic resorts.
