I received a gift card for a 50-minute, full body massage, something that I have never had before. I'd never been to Design 1 but heard good things so I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the day of my appointment dawned gray and snowy - very snowy. I left on time, but the roads were a mess, and people just don't know how to drive in snow around here. It took a lot longer than normal to get anywhere. This led to me being 4 minutes late to Design 1 according to my (pretty accurate) car clock.
When I got inside, the two girls at the front desk were helping other people. So I stood and waited. During that time, 3 other salon girls wandered in and out of the front desk area. All of them looked at me, but none of them did anything to help me. Finally I got up to the counter where I was greeted. She then said to me in a snippy tone, "well, you're 8 minutes late, so that will be taken out of your massage time." WHAT? I apologized and tried to point out the snowstorm outside but she did not care. Plus, I wanted to point out that her staff had wasted 4 of those minutes by not helping me, but I did not want to argue right then and waste more of my massage time.
Sherri did my massage and it was wonderful. She herself was very lovely and made conversation easy both before and after the massage, so it didn't feel like a weird stranger was touching me. I really appreciated that. The ambiance in the room was also very nice, and there were nice touches like lotion and hair spray in the bathroom. Were it just for the amenities and Sherri, I'd visit again.
However, I will think twice before going there again, and I feel bad because my husband paid to let me have a 50-minute massage as a gift and instead it was more like 40 minutes. You'd think that in Michigan, they would be understanding of the weather. I also didn't appreciate that they were the ones wasting half of those "8 minutes." My experience certainly was not worth $70.
