The Denver Zoo is like most zoos -- fascinating displays of animals (especially cute babies), and pleas for animal conservation. The truth may be darker. Denver Zoo is probably no more guilty than others, but zoos breed baby animals to bring in visitors. Once they are grown, they are not so valuable. Many need to be "rescued" by animal sanctuaries. The Denver Zoo broke up a family of large primates last year -- a male was relocated to another zoo. The problem is, these family groups in the wild would stay together forever (or at least until a member decided to move on, or was forced out by the group itself). How'd you like your cousin to be forcibly relocated? This is part of zoo economics. Keep visiting if you must, but let Denver Zoo know how you feel! Zoos should put animals before profits.
