Deeply disappointing. We went there on a recent weekend night, the room was empty during prime hours, yet several servers, and another man that later told me he was the manager were standing around chatting. We were not seated for 8 minutes, I repeat 8 minutes, and they had only 3 tables. They had more employees standing around clueless than diners. Finally my girlfriend walked up to the so called manager, and asked to speak with a manager, he replied that he was the manager, and he asked how he can help. My girlfriend said we would like a table if you're not too busy. Here's the killer, he said oh' I didn't know you wanted to dine with us tonight. Is that incredible? Still a young restaurant 6/30/2005

Met friends there lastnight, sat indoors even though the patio had room. Service was slow to get drinks, but once engaged the staff was still slow, but better. Seems they are still working out some bugs but overall, a great experience. I pre-read the reviews before going and they have either adjusted the lighting or I'm missing something because it was fine, plenty of light - don't forget you can always ask the host/hostess to adjust temperature and lighting. The appetizers were just ok, the main dishes were better. The fish of the day, a halibut, was great, the chefs special sauce spectacular, prawns in mushroom sauce was a little heavy, and the spicy chili lobster was phenomenal - needed a side of rice to complement, but otherwise, very tasty. My family liked the Filet Mignon, rack of lamb, Zesty prawns and I like their jumbo size prawns (unlike other place where prawns are tiny). Their waiters are nice and friendly. First day of the spring, I was able to spend it with my girlfriend at the restaurant where we had our first dinner date. We've never had anything but an incredible experience there, and I'm sure it will continue to provide us with brief but fulfilling escapes. It is truly a gem in the city. Cozy, comfortable, easy, moderately priced, good service, great food, and with a modest but wonderful wine selection. Wonderful French cuisine with a touch of Vietnamese. I know, French restaurants are a dime a dozen, but you wont find a Mediterranean crab or creamy pasta with shrimps within a mile of this place, especially with a French professional waiter helping you find what youre craving. I've been back to Deep the past 2 weekends. The lounge area is the reason why. Great drinks and drink specials, cool comfortable atmosphere, and the place is always packed with hot chicks. I havent eaten at the restaurant but I hear it's really good. It looks like a cool spot to dine. more

Gem in the rough 2/2/2005

An unexpected surprise. I work by the SJ airport and have always visited downtown SJ for lunch. On the way to Chicken Coop I noticed the place with a huge patio on the corner of San Pedro & decided to come back for dinner with a co-worker. Tried the special, half a garlic roasted butter crab and steak, fantastic! The best surf & turf i've ever tasted. Highly recommended! Great price, was $25 each. Unbeatable in the bay area, you'll have to drive to SF southern california to get that price. Pros: food, food, food Cons: lighting more

i love seafood so thought i'd give this restaurant a try. the cracked black pepper crab was excellent! the pepper sauce had an asian twist but matched extremely well with the natural sweetness of the crab. the crab was definitely fresh and they plate you a WHOLE crab. i also ordered the crab salad. it came with a mound of fresh crab meat and could have been a meal in itself! overall, i would highly recommend this restaurant to seafood lovers, especially those partial to crab. First off we would like to apologize for all this bickering. In response to the ""Horrible Service"" posting, this person came into the restaurant and inquired about a possible wedding setup. He/she wanted to keep the cost at $15 per person. Now for a wedding setup, $15 per person is impossible when you factor in the cost of setup, staff and food. HORRIBLE SERVICE 1/18/2005

I was hoping to use this location for our wedding. It took me 4 calls before someone finally called me back. Never gave me rates in writing like I requested. Showed up late to meet with us and tried to change the prices to the most expensive menu they had. They just opened, don't have the experience or reputation to charge these prices. Wasted my time. Beautiful patio for parties. Just wished it was occupied by a more attentive business. Horrible service. Didn't want to even waste my time trying their food. wow, talk about fresh! the hostess was kind enough to give me a tour. they have a live tank for crab & lobster! thats fresh! i used to go up to SF to get fresh seafood, thanks to deep restaurant now i won't have to drive 45mins. to get flavorfull crab & lobster dishes. thanks deep! Unique and upscale... 1/7/2005

For many of us in the Bay Area who want to a pleasant seafood dining experience, we'd have to be in the City where restaurants like Crustacean and Swan's Oyster Depot offer great food and service. Deep Restaurant Lounge offers the South Bay what it's been lacking for many years: excellent seafood with an ethnic flare. The ambience is terrific, as is the staff including the friendly general manager, Donovan. He personally made sure that our experience at Deep was unparalled to any other restaurant in the Bay. The quality of good seafood restaurants in San Jose is few and far between, but I think the owners of this hip, trendy, and appetizing restaurant have hit a home run. The menu offers you a nice assortment of old time favorites with fresh new elements (the garlic noodles are to die for!) I had the garlic crab and my wife had the shrimp fettucine. The food is presented well and the portions are surprisingly adequate. They even have a pretty enticing desert menu (but I was way too full) Service was up to par with the food with no glaring complaints. Prices are commendable. Lost in all the enticing food was the terrific ambiance this restaurant brings. The old brick walls are lined with plasma sreens, salt water tanks, and a great looking staff. Don't waste your money here!! 1/5/2005

I went there expecting 'superb' service and 'out of this world' food. NOTHING SPECIAL! They don't even treat you special. But if you're the only ones there, then, maybe, just maybe. Ughhh! I was so very disappointed. The quality of the food was POOR and service was POOR. more

New Years Eve was a blast! I din't want it to end. Dinner was great, food was excellent, although service was alittle slow... understandable it was sold out busy. It was also a good value for a 3 course meal on new years eve. The night club was awesome, great performance by Natalise. My only complaint is that it was so crowded in the main dance floor. Best of both world...restaurant and club 1/2/2005

The food was great. The first reviewer must be sleeping while dining, but our server was great. The ""limited"" menu was a New Years special menu. Our server told us the intermittent sound was because they had a performer doing sound check. I had such a great time and the restaurant had a cool hip vibe to it. Would definitely come again. I was told that if you dine thursday to saturday you can stay for the club which will cover the cost of the cover. Overall...great people, great ambience, and great food.
